Amazon.co.uk ReviewThe multi-instrumentalist funk supremo that is Will Holland returns with a second recording from his full band, The Quantic Soul Orchestra. QSO have bedded in their sound through a series of barnstorming live appearances over the last couple of years, and
Pushin' On sees them at the very top of their game. It's hard not to be effusive about an album as good as this, which sees Holland's remarkable song-writing and feel for the genre reflected in a satisfyingly gritty, low-fi seventies funk sound.
There are no album tracks on here--every one's a winner--but special mention should go to the blistering cover of Mr Scruff's dancefloor banger, "Get A Move On" and to the incomparable Alice Russell: it takes some guts for a female vocalist to cover a timeless Nina Simone song like "Feeling Good", but the Brighton diva succeeds in spades, breathing new life into a much-loved classic.
Between his Quantic, Quantic Soul Orchestra and Limp Twins projects, Will Holland has proved to be an extremely gifted and prolific musician and tunesmith, and this is his best work to date. More importantly, he's funkier than George Clinton's platforms: sitting still through this album is not a viable option. --Duncan Thomson

AmazingThis album is by far the best I have in my collection! It has so much funk it's unreal. I love it!!!! For all the Alice Russell fans, you couldn't get anything better than The Quantic Soul Orchestra and Alice Russell together....bring on some more Tru Thoughts!

Sure is FunkyAs a lover of early 70's funk and soul, I always approach anything from later with extreme caution, too often I have been disappointed with over produced imitations of the real thing.
Well not here. Approached with an open mind, this will surely appeal to anyone who loves Funk and Soul from the 70's - as Mr Qauntic surely does.
If you liked the the funkier end of the Acid Jazz, as in Brand New Heavies early stuff, then try this - you won't be disappointed

One of the best Modern groups around!I saw quantic soul orchestra in kentish town supporting De La Soul and I was so impressed I picked up the album...funk far superior 2 that of the brand new heavies and incognito much more mature and educated sound... funk jazz fusion! Alice Russell is probably the best female soul vocalist I've seen.. well worth your money! if u get the chance 2 see them live i suggest u do... I find it hard 2 describe the sound but i guess it wouldn't be out of place with early ninties acid jazz only more mature... for the music realists!

absolutely bang-onQSO continues to rip up, remix, and reinvent. Quantic is the original funk-soul brother and Pushin' On certainly doesn't fail to continue on from where Stampede had left off. A fine blend of echoey, bouncing drumbeats with fat basslines and a great horn accompaniment to get your money's worth from your soundsystem.
You'll find yourself cutting a mighty fine slice of well-waited music cake. How dare I go on without mention to the soul diva that is Alice Russell? Partnered once more with QSO, AR certainly has found a mutual artistic arrangement which is perhaps, dare-I-say, a progression from Bah Samba.
Pushin' On is a great selection of fine funk soul cuts which will definitely bring a smile to your face on your first listen and will soon be heard in all manner of swanky bars and clubs all around town. Pick up a copy if you loved Stampede and turn up the volume and bass like you did before - I know you will not be disappointed.
