Not Good At All!ok so heres the major problem with the "Philips DVP5100 DVD Player"...
It's crap! It knows nothing when it comes to inserting or ejecting DVD's. When you try and eject the disc, you have about a 90% chance of the disc becoming lodged, and stuck on the rim of the DVD disc slot.
Two solutions to this that ive found
1. Prise the opening with your hands so the disc dont get stuck
or
2. Shove a blunt object in to get the disc out
If you do not do this quick enough, the dvd player will get confused and it wont have a clue if the disc is in or out. It will not let you put another disc in until you turn off the dvd player, and turn it on again.
This has to be by far THE worst DVD player ive ever had due to this problem.
Dont waste your money, get a DVD player with a disc tray, so this problem is avoidable.

Top notch DVD player........I have had this DVD player for a couple of years now and it still performs brilliantly. It is sleek and stylish and I particularly like that it does not have a disc drawer, you just insert the disc into the slot instead...very cool!! It is capable of playing multi region DVD'S and divX files.....big bonus! The picture quality is crisp and clear and menus are easy to navigate and the remote control is simple, but functional. It also has progressive scan for an even better picture.
This machine has managed to play nearly everything I have thrown at it and achieved this with style and simplicity. Highly recommended.

The best there is for the priceI have had this DVD player for close to a year now and even to this day I have yet to find a better DivX/Xvid player.
A lot of people complain about the loader and yes there is some problems but none that will break the player. The only thing with it is sometimes you wate a extra 10 seconds (WOW) loading it in.... and most loaders you have to wait for it to come out then it gets jammed so really there is no problem. But what is a extra 10secs?!?
the player will play everything I have tried and the xvids/divx is encoded right play just like a DVD does. ALso Philips have updates sometimes that keep your DVD player always up-to-date.
The only thing I would ask for is more updates as some more audio support for xvids would be great as some have newer formats which will be used more.

bit of a let downReasons that make me dislike this player;
1. Remote is horrible. Designed big, fat and chunky. No-one designs remotes this poorly anymore.
2. Slot loading mechanism is shockingly loud. It doesnt blow out my windows or anything, but it shouldnt be as loud as it is.
3. No eject button on the remote. As this is a slot loader you dont want to be leaving dvds in this after watching - what would it have cost Philips to put an extra eject button on the remote so i can eject then walk over and pick out the dvd which has popped out during my travel?
Other than that its a fine machine and does all it said it would. No hassles with regions or divx, plays all fine.

The disc mechanism spoils the showI have several Philips DVD players, and the DVP5100 is the worst of the lot. The reason is the terrible slot-loading mechanism. It's slow, WAY slower than its tray-loading brothers, and it sometimes just does not work. It gets confused about whether there is a disc in the machine or not, and right now I think there are two discs jammed inside my player. I'm going to have to take a screwdriver to it to get them out.
I don't think this is just a fault with my player, it just seems a very poor design decision. I'd also like to back up other reviewers' comments about scratched discs. A slot loader grabs the discs in ways that tray-loaders do not, and it leaves an impression on the disc.
I'll buy another Philips, but never another slot-loader.
