That's the French equivalent of "a pig in a poke", which is what this CD-ROM is. I didn't learn that from the software though - in fact you probably won't learn any French at all from this package, as you'll likely bin it in frustration after a few minutes like I did. Horrible graphics, meaningless videos, no "lesson" structure whatsoever, and a ghastly icon-driven interface make for an extremely annoying piece of software. A terrible way to attempt to learn French.

Like a previous reviewer, I was lulled by the AA logo into thinking that this might be OK (as the AA's books are generally pretty good). Big mistake! The moral of the story is, don't buy software on impulse without checking Amazon user reviews first. Avoid!

Very Disappointed
This is definitely not for beginners. It is neither user friendly nor is it easy to follow its learning structure. What a shame. It was the AA endorsement that prompted me to choose this product. I will not be so foolish next time.

Whatever Happened to Instructions?
Maybe this programme is wonderful. But it is going to be difficult to tell because when you open the box all you get is three discs and a French phrase book. There are no instructions for installation and, boy, do you need them!

Try disc 1 to install the programme. That seems to work. Until you try to start the programme that is. Then a screen pops up and asks you to insert the 'Lessons' disc. Except none of the discs is labelled 'Lessons.'

And when you do insert a disc the programme tries to go through the installation process.

There is a Acrobat formatted manual on the disc (but no Acrobat!). But the manual doesn't shed any light on the vanishing 'Lessons' disc/s.

Or even mention that when you start the programme you will be asked to insert a 'Lessons' disc.

So I'm none the wiser.

I've emailed GSP's technical support. Ironically even at the GSP site it doesn't list this 'Deluxe' version of the programme.

Bottom line is that when paying for computer programmes we deserve a set of instructions on how to install and use them. And it's not enough to put a shabby looking manual on the same disc that you are going to use for the installation. That's not progress. That's cheap merchandising.
