Amazon.co.uk ReviewAt some indeterminate point in their now 25 year long history and with serenely inconspicuous efficiency, Birmingham's UB40 rose to a level of peerlessness as the first-family of British reggae. While they've absolutely nothing left to prove - save to those bored by their longevity -
Who You Fighting For finds UB40 shouting more loudly than usual; the likelihood being - even at this autumnal stage of the band's career - that less partisan ears may be pricked by such refreshing spices as the Bhangra chorus of "Reasons" or even by more traditional summer reggae sweeteners as "Gotta Tell Someone" or the dark, philanderer-reformed ruminations of "One Woman Man". But the real reason why UB40 are raising their voices is Iraq, possibly the most upset they've been about anything since Maggie's iron grip on the keys of Number 10. While having the brass to call one tune "War Poem" - not the wisest thing to do if one wants to avoid the elicitation of disparaging comparisons with Wilfred Owen - doesn't bode well, UB40 reach for the shrewd invective on "Sins Of A Father", a well-written censure of Christian neo-Conservatism and oil lust. Sensibly, the lean skin-and-bone production and avoidance of MOR blandishments make UB40 seem meaner - and younger - than they have done in years.

REASONS TO CHECK THIS OUT:-IReasons you should hear this 1: they're the band that bring you fun.
Reasons you should hear this 2: they'll make you bright, if you're feeling blue
Reasons you should hear this 3: the album's great, take it from me
The Reason we will stay with you, is UB40 - we love you......
JUST LOOK AT THESE BLOKES: surely we're now talking 25/6 years!! Come on, I can remember unwrapping my Signing Off album. This is the most brilliant album they've done for a good while (even though, yes, it's difficult to chose) but sometimes it seems only those of us in the secret club know about them. Ah well, let's enjoy ourselves while we can because we've always been onto a good thing ever since "Signing Off".
I love the way that bhangra and reggae have been mixed on "Reasons" and it is so lovely to see the DVD with the cool, chilled out Indian geezers just swaying side to side reggae style like Ali does and there's that bloke with the head-dress (obviously their dad just arrived) going bonkers. I love the way it is all integrated with reggae. Bhangra sounds much better that way. Just my opinion mind (don't want a load of objectors). Reasons is a brilliant song anyway and number one on our list.
"Plenty More" is a return to one you can sing tongue-in-cheek, at G Bush and Cronies(whilst watching the "Team America" DVD. Excellent work, geezers, couldn't have done better. And so true. Again, and this goes way back to the past UB40 we knew, many a political angle on this album - love it, about time someone who has a voice said something - "Who You Fighting For?", "Bling Bling" (that'll make you think twice next time you wanna buy fancy jewellery) and, you gotta listen to the words, "War Poem" - they're on my wavelength just like the first albums. I am now around the band members' age. UB40 shoves ANY band or singer into a deep lake as far as I'm concerned. Any concert they do, I'm at home.
This album also contains a few romantic covers, reggae and even the Beatles, and as usual they carry these off with great panache and tenderness, making them sound better than the original. (Here speaks someone who grew up around Queens Rd Market in Upton Park, London, where there was Soundville Records with listening booths as part of a normal Saturday experience - you just had to hear Hortense Ellis in the Top 20 on Gas label - also Pat Kelly and a Sam Cooke fan too).
Love the way they've all stuck together over the years, through the thick and thin that we go through. Bl**dy good luck to UB40 - all they've ever brought is joy through conscience and yes, that's a good thing. They've more morals than any of the people who may be out there now and have been my guidance at so many times and a comfort always.
BUY THIS ALBUM OR YOU ARE NOT A UB40 FAN. God, what do you have to say? Go to the Forest Tours in June and so on. They are so billiant live.

Groovin'If this album doesn't get you singing along and your feet tapping, you aint got no soul! So many potential hits on this, its hard to dislike any of the tracks. Ones that stand out for me are: Sins of the Father, Bling Bling, Who You Fighting For? and Reasons (if this aint a hit I'll eat my Rasta Hat)
UB40 are as consistent and rocksteady as they've always been and this album moves them up one more notch in my opinion!

ExcellentAn absolutely brilliant album. At last, UB40 seem to have returned to their roots and wrote some great thought provoking, political songs, whilst throwing in some beautiful love songs too. This is an excellent album, I have been a fan from the beginning and this cd exceeds all expectations. Let's hope it is a taste of more to come! Very, very, highly recommended. Worth every penny!

Back on top form !!Have been a fan since the beginning. The last couple of albums left me wondering if they have passed their sell-by-date. My faith has now been restored! Got the album last week and have played it many times since - it gets better with every listen.
