Amazon.co.uk ReviewAndy Williams scored different kinds of hits at different periods in his career. In the 1950s, he had a handful of Top Ten pop hits in styles ranging from light rock roll to Hawaiian music. In the 1960s, he made a transition to big ballads, many of them movie themes, and as a result was among the top album and easy-listening artists of the decade. Some of the songs most closely associated with him are not among his biggest hits as measured by the singles charts, if they were singles at all -- the primary example being his signature song, "Moon River," featured on his breakthrough LP, IMoon River Other Great Movie Themes/I, but never even released as a single. Given these circumstances, the compiler of a Williams best-of collection has more latitude in making his choices than he might for another artist. This collection includes Williams' classics such as "Music To Watch Girls By", "Can’t Get Used To Losing You", "Moon River", "Can’t Take My Eyes Off You", "On The Street Where You Live", "Up Up And Away", "House Of Bamboo", "Born Free".

A CD full of memoriesIf like me you are of a certain age,
br /you will remember kissing girls in bedrooms with these Andy Williams songs on the record player while parents thought you were both doing your homework together.
br /
br /Todays kids think they and the CD and their mp3 players invented all that. But we know different.
br /The sound quality is superb, so stick this in your personal CD player and step back in time, and remember those early kisses when you were young as you dance around the room.

A selection of hits and coversNew compilations of Andy's music are released at regular intervals, with many of the songs reappearing. So it is that this compilation contains a selection of Andy's classic hits (though there are some notable omissions, especially Almost there and Home loving man) and many of his covers of other people's hits. pThis particular compilation features his duet version of Can't take my eyes off you with Denise Van Outen, but most if not all of the other tracks have been released on earlier compilations of Andy's music. It begins with Music to watch girls by, which became Andy's first UK top ten hit for 26 years following its use in a commercial, and ends with that duet with Denise Van Outen. In between, you will find the other classic songs associated with Andy (not all of them hits for him) including Happy heart, Born free, Can't get used to losing you, Can't help falling in love, Solitaire, Moon river, May each day, Days of wine and roses and his solo version of Can't take my eyes off you. pAndy's distinctive interpretations of songs made famous by others are well represented too. These include Up up and away, The impossible dream, On the street where you live, Unchained melody, Spooky, Something stupid, Raindrops keep falling on my head, The look of love, We've only just begun and Stranger on the shore.pThis is not the definitive Andy Williams hits collection but nevertheless provides a fine introduction to his music.
