Not a bad little machine
I've had this machine for about a year and i am very please with it. It can be a little tempremental at times and has frozen up on me a few times but i downloaded a Liteon firmwire upgrade that has iron out a few cliches. It is good. I find it reads most dvd's and records to all formats too. The hard drive is very good too.

Good value for money.

playing dvd compatability failure
Ive had one of these machines for nearly 18 months now and i am pleased with the overall product, but the main problem i found was its incapability to play many brands of dvd discs. It struggles to read them and if it cant it tells you that its a re-writable disc that needs finalizing, when it may be just a normal dvd film that plays everywhere else in the house. It has on occasion refused to read original purchased discs like pirates of the carribean. Ive downloaded the latest firmware but still no joy. I tend to just use the hard drive now as i got fedup with the hastle and play discs on a portable dvd player that cost [...] and plays everything.not a happy bunny as this 5026 cost over [...] when new.

Warning - buy at your own risk
I bought this machine as an entry level unit and frankly the only good thing was the price. The record quality from cable TV is fair but the reliability is poor - mine has been back to Liteon twice in the last 6 months to have the motherboard (twice), hard drive (twice) and disk drive replaced. To make matters worse, Liteon customer service has to be the poorest and least responsive that I have ever dealt with. They do not keep you informed and their service centre even claimed that they probably did not repair it properly the first time.
Its up to you to make your own choice - but I will never but a Liteon unit again!

Problems Problems Problems
This is one of the most frustraing products i have ever bought. The concept and idea are brilliant... And the product itself was fine for about 1 month! Then the problems start, not reading proper dvds, not being able to record onto blank DVD's.... plus you get no support from Liteon only from the seller!!!
I am sure there are better things to spend your hard earned cash on....

Great product and value for money
we Picked this item as it was the cheapest dvd recorder with a hard disk included. Not heard of Lite-on but checked out their website and decided to go for it. Added choice as it can record on to -r and +r disks.
Item came quickly and was easy to set up. Plug in, quick scan of channels (found some we did not realise we had) and away it goes. Easy to setup for recording with a simple step by step guide, there is a more direct approach for confident users. Copies two hour film to DVD in about 10 mins, can edit chapters and titles for the disk and take out advert breaks if you require.
Very happy with choice and would recommend to anyone else looking for a recorder.
