Classic 1979 animated series. Finally!
This show is so far ahead of its time. The animation is just below movie quality and it has a "cool factor" that very few cartoons had at the time. Fairly dark show that follows Flash Gordon and his crew as they meet the many strange creatures that inhabit planet Mongo and the surrounding moons. Check out the sequence that involves Ming's "pleasure room" filled with bikini clad women standing around waiting for?...no wonder I never missed this show when I was a 10 year old. The animation is very fluid as they rotoscoped (filmed live actors and models, then drew over them) many actors and ships. Obviously cashing in on the Star Wars craze at the time, this show actually surpasses Lucas' own Droids & Ewoks cartoons that appeared on saturday morning tv 5 years later!
