You will not be disappointed. Mr Anka's voice is excellent, the man is at the top of his profession. The arrangements are buy people at the top of their profession and played by some great musicians. If you like "Big Bands" this is a great album - doubt ye not, you will not be disappointed.
This a Brilliant CD. paul Anka does all track the justice they Deserve. Cant fault him. Very enjoyable listening
This is a great fun album with very different versions of songs most people know. Heard it first about 6 months ago and just had to buy it.
br /I particurlarly like the 'Eye of the Tiger' and 'Wonderwall' tracks.
Rock Swings is the first of two albums by Paul Anka. The man who famously penned "My Way" covers some contempory songs "his way" in a swing/big band manner. If your a lover of differing cover versions of songs you love, then is is one for the eclectic collection. Do check out the second album Classic Songs: My Way and enjoy.
Paul Anka as one of the founders of high school pop along with Buddy Holly does no more than what rock'n'roll singers of his era were doing ie reconstructing songs.Like the Marcels did with Blue Moon.Or even him with 40s standards from musicals
br /Theres always going to be snobbery but few realise that Anka began his career on a black music label on 1955.Yes RPM who paired the kid with black singer Micki Marlo.
br /So what have we here? Hardly the greatest songs of the 90s but he does his best and I wonder if Paul realises IT'S A SIN is about self abuse!
br /In the 80s a retro RnR group called Big Daddy did a version of Eye of the Tiger in a sort of accapella treatment and the Pet Shop Boys themselves did the Elvis song ALWAYS ON MY MIND in a radical reconstruction.
br /Elvis himself did the same thing with Hank Snow's A fool such as I.
br /Popular music is a living thing it always needs a recharge. You just can't be surprised anymore what will happen next.
br /Perhaps a return to the high school pop Anka made his name with because not much is left
