Poirot begins
This first collection contains the following episodes;

Season One 1989

The adventure of the Clapham cook
Murder in the mews
The adventure of Johnnie Waverly
Four and twenty blackbirds
The third floor flat
Triangle at Rhodes

The king of clubs
The dream

Season 2 1990 (first four episodes)

The series begins strongly and gets even better as it progesses. Perfect casting, acting, continuity etc.

Suchet and the rest are all perfectly cast. Drama done to perfection.

Good but....
A good collection of Poirot mysteries to keep you entertained on a rainy day. The only problem is that most of the mysteries are relatively short, most of them being only fifty minutes long. I don't think that is long enough to properly show the workings of Poirot's mind. Some of the episodes seem a bit rushed and it feels like some of the key moments have been left out. Which makes it difficult to try and guess the culprit yourself which is half the fun of watching a murder mystery. You are left with the feeling that they have cut down the episodes to try and squeeze as many onto the DVDs as possible.

The performances of the actors playing the main charcters such as Hastings, Japp and Miss Lemon are good, particularly Japp. Suchet is very good as the Poirot but, having done so many, he probaly dreams like Poirot. Some of the other performances leave a little to be desired.

The costumes and settings are, in most of the episodes, well done and help give you the feel for the period.

All in all they are good to pass the time. When you buy these you don't expect to get brilliant performances from all involved. Unfortunately you do expect to be able to put yourself in the shoes of Poirot and try and draw your own conclusions. The editing down of the episodes makes that difficult if not impossible.
