If This Is The Basics....Then Where Is Timbaland? 3.5 Stars
I've never really been a massive Ginuwine fan he's a good vocalist has bought out a few great songs (Pony,Tell Me Do U Wanna,There It Is,In Those Jeans) but as his discography progressed originality started to filter."Back II Da Basics" comes as Ginuwine's fifth album pratically 10 years since his widely acclaimed debut "The Bachelor", i 1st saw the title of his album and instantly thought "Woohoo hes hooking back up with Timbaland" i was wrong.p1.Intro (Featuring Knight) - An ok intro with some rap stylings by the very mediochre Knight, but seriously what was the point of this i liked Ginuwine's verse the beat is nice also 5/10p2.Oh Girl - An up-tempo groove but it really doesn't stand out i think this would of suited someone like Omarion or Ray J more he does sound good the chorus is probably the best part of the song 6/10p3.Secrets - Rumoured to be the 2nd single produced by Jazze Pha but his pointless ad-libs are just stupid, if you get past that the song is cool a nice up-tempo its catchy and might please fans 8/10p4.When We Make Love - The first single its one of his best tracks so far on the same lines as "Differences" with a mix of "In Thoses Jeans" the video was fantastic too.I had this song on my mp3 for ages its a song about how your partner makes you feel when your gettin intimate 10/10p5.Want U To Be - Melodic and sweet i would say this is typical Ginuwine and i would go as far as to say it's one of the best songs here the vocals arrangement is done very well although his vocals sort of drown out the beat but other than that its a great song 10/10p6.The Club (Featuring Jadakiss) - I had high hopes for this as Jadakiss was on this but sadly the song falls short it just sounds like "Hell Yeah" the chorus is ok but it just reminds me too much of "Hell Yeah". Best part about this is Jadakiss' part also rumoured to be the 2nd single it could do well we'll just have to see what he'll pick as the next single 8/10p7.Interlude (Featuring Knight) - The beat reminds me of something from a Kelis track but this is just annoying i know Ginuwine givin this guy Knight some exposure but he just isnt good im sorry lol 4/10p8.She's Like - The first proper ballad-like song it's ok obvioustly dedicated to his wife Solé, i gotta say though i tried to hate it lol but i couldn't i found this really nice the spanish guitar vibe to it give it a summery feel (bare with me lol) a catchy song definately a highlight 10/10p9.Betta Half - Another ballad-like song could be the follow on from Love U More from "The Senior" beautifully melodic the lyrics seem very sincere and true Ginuwine is truly in love aww 10/10p10.Glaze In My Eye - A fan favourite it has a Usher/Tyrese vibe to it the chorus sounds really funny going all high and sorta squeeky.The tempo of it is perfect and nice to listen to and chill 8/10p11.I'm In Love - Another of my favourites a great love song to play to your partner just to let them know how much they mean to you very impressive actually the bridge is a killer 10/10p12.Far Away - The beat is the only great thing about it sounding old school but the lyrics are just boring it probably looked really good on paper but it just does nothing for me 3/10p13.Take A Chance - This is a great song the beat is just a nice acoustic guitar rhythmic melody which i was impressed with the lyrics arent as good as some of the other tracks but that can be forgiven and also the song grows on you and is fairly catchy it was in my head for days 9/10p14.Back 2 Da Basics - I dunno how he can have the cheek to call this Basics its nothing like Timbaland and that WAS his basis i usually turn the album off after #13 anyway 3/10p15.Thank You's - Dedicated to people who have stuck by him worked with him and just generally been in his life a nice touch to the album but why no shout out to Aaliyah? i thought they used to be close before her death but its nice all the same 8/10pTop 5br1.When We Make Lovebr2.I'm In Lovebr3.Betta Halfbr4.She's Likebr5.Want U To BepIf your a dedicated fan of G's then by all means get it if your a casual fan you might be a bit disapointed like i was i hope next time he makes sure Timbaland is on his next album.
