Classic Rock Album
Absolute must have album - in my view the best "live" album of it's genre. The band are in top form with Mogg's vocals very clear. Of course the highlights are all centred on Schenker's guitar playing and he never lets you down. Quite simply his playing, tone and clarity are top notch and rank him as one of the top rock guitarists of all time. Listen to Rock Bottom and see what I mean. Buy this album.

Standing by for the brickbats to come my way
I am afraid that I can't agree with those reviewers who put this in with the "great" live albums. Whilst the music is well performed, the live experience just doesn't come over, so this becomes, for me, a lacklustre sort of greatest hits package. I got the 2006 re-mastered edition so perhaps the excitement has somehow been edited out of it but this only confirms my long held belief that UFO were a bit "slight" in comparison with the likes of Judas Priest - "Unleashed in the East" being a stonking example of what a live album should be like.

Live Metal As It Should Be
There is quite simply no live album which equals this. Yes, we all know it was overtinkered with by Mr.Nevison several times but who gives a...
Only Blackfoot's Highway Song (Live) comes close in my view for sheer energy and musicianship. You should never call yourself a metal fan if this is not in your collection.Period!

Standout Live Recording!
If only all live recordings were half as good as this one! All the other reviewers have got it spot on - a simply superb album capturing the band at their absolute peak. This is up there with 'Live & Dangerous' 'If You Want Blood' and all the other classics of the genre. As others have mentioned, in truth UFO were League Division 2 as opposed the League Division 1 (as we used to say in the 70s!) but you wouldn't know it from this set - songs from their earlier releases have been completely tranformed, benefiting variously from improved arrangements and the 'edge' of live performance. An essential purchase if you like your rock hard and heavy.

Essential for hard rock fans
The late 1970s saw a spate of live double albums from established rock bands, mostly successful. In UFO's case, it gave them their UK breakthrough, along with the 'Doctor Doctor' hit. Though successful in Germany and Japan, they didn't make great, hard-driven rock until 1974's 'Phenomenom'. With no distinguishing quality, they languished in the wake of peers who'd already been there, but they had a great vocalist in Phil Mogg and a brilliant guitarist in Michael Schenker. By the late 1970s, they had an impressive repertoire, while most of the peers were burned out, divorcing, etc.
'Strangers In The Night' ironically signalled the end of their most potent phase, with Schenker soon to move on. All of their greatest songs from this era are performed here: 'Love To Love', 'Only You Can Rock Me', 'Doctor Doctor', the bulldozing 'Lights Out', an extended version of 'Rock Bottom', 'Too Hot To Handle' and 'Shoot Shoot', the kind of song you might expect more from AC/DC. There are a few Spinal Tap moments: Mogg's pretending to be dumb or rebellious in comments between tracks, the 'Hello Chicago' from the MC at the start, for instance, but if anything that's considered an endorsement. Unusually, the two fine bonuses come at the start, apparently because that's where they came in the running order. 'Strangers In The Night' is an example of high-energy hard rock at its best.
