Description
Eighth album from grunge survivors Pearl Jam follows 2002s Riot Act. Fuelled by frustration and anger over the state of Western politics in the 21st century, they have made one of the heaviest albums of their career. Their sound has matured into classic American rock in the vein of Neil Young & Crazy Horse or Bruce Springsteen, but with a vitriolic injection of punk rock fury. The album has been hailed by fans as one of their best yet and includes the single "World Wide Suicide".

good entry into Pearl Jam?
Pearl Jam seems to get a lot of stick from reviewers here for this record.

I actually quite like it. It might not be their best album, but it ís a good one.
Ok, there are a few crap songs on it, like "unemployable"(the opening riff is directly lifted from "driver's seat" by REO speedwagon - no attempt to hide this misdemeanor!) and "army reserve"(Eddie's voice strains beyond artistic expression to become merely unpleasant, ugly, and possibly damaging to the ears). And, yes, there are a few forgettable songs on it as well:"Big Wave" and "Gone"( and "Wasted Reprise" - but this is forgivable: it is a gimmick).
But, hey, don't most albums contain a few duds?

But there are also some good solid, robust songs on it."Life Wasted" and "Worldwide Suicide" are excellent rocking songs with lots of energy and drive (great to listen in your car, if you don't mind chancing a few points on your license);"Marker in the sand" is my favourite and again has great energy. Then there are the slower ballad-type songs "Parachutes" (I've learned to play it on the guitar) and "Come Back" (likewise).

What strikes me about the good songs on this record is their relative straightforwardness and accessibleness. This record is more approachable/easier then previous ones. And, I think it silly to judge the "greatness" of music by the level of accessabilty alone...

All in all, a solid album that might win over a few non-Pearl Jam-'ers, and encourage a further recce into their other material.

I tried, I really tried
This just isn't a good album. The songs are weak, the production terrible and the guitar tone is plain horrid. It sounds like the uninspired and talentless work of some teenage pop rock band, not the mighty Pearl Jam. I'm most disappointed, even the artwork sucks!

Is that it!!!???
Come on "Riot Act" could of been better but this is terrible. I nearly fell asleep. I could'nt even listen to the whole thing.
"Inside Jobs" alright, what happened???

perfection by the biggest band of the entire world
is there something we can say.....?the biggest band of the world and surely the greatest live band ever created an album as precious as the band's history......no more comments....god bless jam for making our lives more colourful. blacklikesadness@gmail.com

welcome back to world wide aclaim
this to me is pearl jam of old raw and with fire in their bellys,their back with a bang.from the first life wasted to the end inside job which i think is the best track on this cd,also world wide suicide is a wake up call to the state of this world (time for hard hats),i've loved pj from the start so buy this u won't regret it.this cd is the best since yield and draws a line in the sand to say we're back.
