A Poet and a Briliant Musician
I was a huge fan of Japan in my school days and after the split I did buy Briliant Trees and wore out the grooves on the album. After many years not listening to david sylvian decided to buy 4 of his albums , Damage, Dead bees on a cake , Eveything and Nothing and Secrets of the Beehive. Each one are brilliant and I wouldnt want to pick the best br / br /Secrets of the Beehive is a digitally remastered master piece in my humble view , the sound quality is amazing , string arrangement is by R Sakamoto and his influence is in every note. I have never heard of the others who play but they are excellent. The music is haunting and beautiful br / br /Any music lover should purchase this CD it has a lot to offer and a great buy for any david Sylvian fan. He is a poet and muscian in equal measures. br / br /I could listen to this CD all day , thats how good it is.I wish I had bought it many years ago . If there is a bad point only lasts 38 minutes but it is quality over quantity

True Masterpiece
Secrets of the Beehive remains the best album I've ever heard. Its' particular quality lies in the conjuring of mood and atmospehere that is so evocative and memorable it paints pictures that linger long after the music has faded. The album oscillates between the centrepiece tracks (Boy With a Gun, Orpheus, When Poets, Let the Happiness In, Waterfront) and the beautiful vignettes that add layers and richness. For me, these are the real highlights and establish a canon of these sort of works that Sylvian returns to later in 'Cries and Whispers', 'Boats for Burning', 'Dobro No.1', 'She is Not'. The opening and closing tracks offer a particular beauty. If I had to find an improvement, the replacement of 'Let the Happiness In' with 'Ride' of the same era would have been the royal jelly on the honey, but that's heresy to some.

Poetic
As my other reviews show, I am not stuck on any one genre. I usually review classical music and jazz, simply because fewer people do so. Yet, every once in a while, I like to point out an album which files under popular music, which lovers of classical music and jazz might also appreciate. This is such an album. br /What you get is a profound, yet somehow fragile, baritone half singing, half reciting, poetic pieces over a minimalistic, always highly originally orchestrated musical background. There is an overall feeling of forlornness, sometimes of still distant, but brooding darkness. Intricate, extremely engaging late night listening! br /I know nothing else quite like this (and that includes Sylvian's other albums, I am afraid). Anna Abbuehl's and Norma Winstone poetic ECM releases come to mind. Maybe this is the male counterpart, with different, but just as intricately arranged, instrumentation? br /No matter what your tastes in music usually are, if you appreciate music with a lot of detail to focus on, and you love an intropsective listen in the night, give this a chance! br /

Brilliant!
Probably the best album I have heard,if you like the music of Japan you will love this,it may take a couple of listens but when it grows on you you won't stop playing it. br / br / Put it on your i pod go for a walk in the woods or on the beach, and take in the majestic sound of Sylvian.

best album ever made
The most perfectly crafted album ever made, pure timeless. Pulls on the strings of your soul, like a perfect picture it will draw you in then leave you dreaming for more. It almost has a life of its own, can any human really write an album so perfect, an experience everytime I listen to it. A drug that is very addictive. Listen to this in Winter time and be soaked in pure beauty.
