The best of the sort
I first heard Krush nearly a decade ago when I was a pure hip hop head. I didn't think much - too jazzy for me at the time. But times change. This is a mix of hip hop and trip-hop at its best. br / br /All of the tracks seem to mix chilled, tripped out sounds with dark menace, but it really works. The Japanese rappers on the album are by far the more dark and menacing, and Esthero's is the most chilled. CL Smooth's track, the first one the album, is one of the best he has ever recorded and the album has no drop in quality from there on - there isn't a track on the album that is not brilliant! br / br /The production reminds me of DJ Premier in the 1990s - not in style but in sheer quality and inventiveness. I think I would put it with Handsome Boy Modelling School, Kruder and Dorfmeister, and Groove Armada's Back to Mine. Speaking of which, if you liked Jeru the Damaja's contribution to Groove Armarda's Hello Country, you will LOVE this! If you like you music trippy, you cannot go wrong here. br / br /The only thing I could fault is not with the music, but with the release. The US version contains two disks - Lyricism (this one) and Soundscapes. However, in the UK the publisher has released these as two separates, which effectively means the price is doubled. It seems that the price issue is unavoidable because I have hear (impossible as it sounds) that Sounndscapes is even better. Can't wait to get it.
