Kelly Brook & Emila Fox both look lovely and play their parts well . It is a treat to see Harry Enfield being sensible on TV for once - quite an achievement to say the least ! Keith Allen is great as the investigating officer - Chorion should get him in a Poirot or two if they really will not be sensible and bring back Philip Jackson as Inspector Japp . Imogen Stubbs is good in her role as are Frances de la Tour , Ken Russel and Thelma Barlow . It is stunning in the sense that it is so celeb packed that you just wonder what the ITV drama department budget is ! Finding out that Mr Pye is gay is hardly a shock - given how the part is written in the original novel and even how it is played in Joan Hickson's version if the writers of the recent adaptation want to be more PC then they had no choice but to make this implied fact more blatant . I found that a bit excessive myself - it was enough to hint at it like Dame Agatha Christie did in her book . My advice to Chorion is just leave the childish desire to shock to Big Brother and to remember how important it is to do justice to the works of a great author . Other than that the script writer did a fine job !
The costumes and scenery are excellent, however, the story deviates from the book a little too much. jerry burton in book was injured in a flying accident, not trying to kill himself on his motor bike. Colonel Appelton did not blow his brains out in the book, he spent his time eyeing up young nursery governesses. The acting was fairly good Imogen Stubbs was very good as the odious Mrs Symmington, Geraldine McEwan is a good Miss marple. Emila Fox was also good as Joanna Burton. At times the acting did seem atad over done. Harry Enfield seemed an odd choice as Mr Symmington. Not as good as the BBC version with Joan Hickson.
Very disappointing, over-the-top, performances from several members of the cast make it impossible to take this one seriously. The settings are gorgeous and it's visually stunning, but a wasted opportunity.
