Big box set, but there are better alternatives

There are three Premium Edition box sets in this series, all 40CDs, by Bach, Beethoven and this one by Mozart.

All the popular symphonies, piano concertos, horn concertos and divertimentos are here, and although the orchestras and soloist may not be the best known, the recordings are uniformly good. The box is minimal, just 40CDs in card sleeves (each showing orchestras, soloists etc) slipped into a rather thin card outer sleeve which is adequate and compact, but there is no booklet to provide anything more than the basic information than that on each CD.

This set has two main competitors, both by the Brilliant Classics label. One is a similarly priced but better packaged 40CD collection (the `Masterworks' series) and the other a comprehensive 170 disc set providing Mozart's entire lifetime works and a CD ROM providing over 200 A4 pages of biography and information.

With regards to this set, the glaring omission of the popular Flute & Harp Concerto (k299) leaves me no alternative than to recommend either of those Brilliant label sets over this Premium edition, preferably the slightly higher priced but far superior `Complete Works' 170 disc version.
