Great sound, but lacking in other areasFirst of all I have to say how impressive the sound quality is, I was genuinely blown away by the depth of the bass and the clarity of the mid and upper ranges. I haven't tested its maximum volume but I'm sure its ear shattering. I never expected this from a system costing just £100 (& only 80 quid for the white one). I use it in my bedroom but I'm confident it would serve well as a main lounge stereo.
On to looks - I love the design, but I'm not hugely keen on the shiny black plastic, it does however compliment the black Nano's finish quite nicely. The I-deck logo shines with a sexy blue light when its on stand-by, this can be quite bright at night so there is a power switch on the back of the amp to solve this.
Problems - First of all the DC power connection on my I-deck is very unreliable, if touched or moved slightly the power cuts out. I'm sure this isn't a common problem but it's still very annoying (solved with a bit of electrical tape bodgery)
Another annoying feature is the volume control. It can ONLY be adjusted using the remote, and there is no indication of what volume you are at - so no way of knowing how close to maximum you are! The remote is also very simple with basic functions, looks good though.
Another volume issue is that sometimes when you switch on the I-deck from stand-by, it reverts back to a (fairly loud) preset volume instead of playing at the volume you left it. This was a problem the other night when I tried to listen to music in bed, I pressed play on the remote expecting it to be as quiet as I left it, but it just blasted out loud music waking angry parents! I'm still getting used to it so could've been a one-off...
Its also a bit fiddly to mess around with the iPod when its in the port to change play lists etc. I would also advise turning off the clicker sound which unfortunately plays through the speakers over the music. The connection between the iPod and the I-deck also seems a little delicate, so it is best not to let your friends mess around with it!
Overall I can't really fault it for its price, but the very basic remote and lack of controls on the actual amplifier lets it down slightly. The sound quality is superb, it was a [...] system when first released after all, so it really is a bargain. It also charges your iPod at the same time so it's always fully charged when you need it!

A superb ipod speaker system for peanuts!Monitor Audio are justifiably regarded as one of the finest British manufacturers of high end loudspeakers . So when I came across the ideck system for under a hundred quid I was pretty sceptical to say the least. I decided to to take a flyer and purchased one from our friends at Amazon. I should have not worried!. I simply cannot praise this unit highly enough. On looks alone it scores well as it is very stylish, understated and nicely put together. However, what really counts is the sound quality - very neutral and fuss free with a well defined low end punch and a mid and treble range just as they should be. I found the Rock preset from my ipod gave the best all round sound on this system regadless of what type of music I played. Overall, this is a proper sounding compact set up that unless you are an over critical hi-fi nerd, will provide a sound of the highest quality at any noise level - This is definitely the best £100 that I have spent in a long time!

Great product - Great valuePurchased in October with my 80G Ipod. Always concerned that new Ipod will fit but no problems there. Checked with manufacturers beforehand who replied promptly - always a good sign. Should fit all Ipods with dock connector and other MP3 players/Ipods via headphone connection. Impressive sound quality and remote control function. Like the fact that you can position the two speakers seperate from the unit. No need to spend out on more expensive systems as i am sure you won't get a better sound quality than this!
