Very Poor
Lets face it, an electric kettle doesn't have to fulfill too many tasks; heat up water and allow it to pour out without scalding the person holding it.

Well fortunately it can boil the water, but unfortunately the ill-fitting lid which has been spewing hot water out almost since the day we got it, finally did cause a nasty scalding.

The kettle has been in use for less than a year, and frankly has appaling build quality. We bought it to match our kitchen; this has proved to be a very bad reason to buy a kettle.

Would recommend avoiding this one

Don't Buy It! Cheap and Nasty.
Firstly, I don't understand why there are so many positive reviews. I bought this kettle, based on these comments, and it arrived today. (After 2 weeks), and i must say, I am really dissapointed.

Its cheap, and nasty. The lid does not close properly, and is very loose.
The illuminated section can only be seen if you switch all the lights off and have the kitchen in complete darkness.

The base is very flimsy thin plastic. There is the option to keep the cord at a short length, by wrapping it under the base, BUT the cord is so stiff, the base tilts the kettle unless its full of water!

I have tried it once, and i have already packed it back up, and printed my returns lable.

If you're thinking of buying this kettle, i would suggest buying a cheap one from your supermarket, that cost around £8. You wouldnt know the difference.

Faulty switch-off and poor customer service
I bought this kettle on the basis of the recent `Best Buy' review in Which. On of the features examined was the length of time a kettle took to switch off after boiling - many of the Best Buys switched off after 3 seconds. Clearly the kettle delivered to us was faulty - on average it took 33 seconds to switch off after boiling. Not only did this waste valuable energy, it caused our kitchen to steam up so much that water dripped from the cupboards above the work surface and after only a few days' use, the laminate started to come away from the cupboard door.

When I phoned the Morphy Richards helpline to tell them the kettle was faulty, I was advised to go to the supermarket, buy a descaler called OUST, and try that to see if it made a difference! There was no hesitation in giving this advice - clearly this complaint had arisen often. I live in Scotland where there is no hard water, and the kettle was failing to switch off after boiling from Day 1. When I expressed surprise at the suggestion I should run around buying extra parts for a brand new product before it would work, I was told this was all they were prepared to do - I could take the advice, in effect, or return to the supplier which in my case was Amazon. They didn't seem remotely concerned that a kettle with automatic switch off was continuing to virtually boil itself dry.

On the basis of the previous reviewer's experience, I expected Morphy Richards to apologise, explain that this was an aberration, and send me a replacement. The reality was very different. Both the kettle, and the quality of customer service, are in my opinion wholly inadequate. Clearly it is a prevalent fault if the helpline advice is to buy a descaler - a new kettle should not be sent out needing a descaler. As a more minor point, although I liked the look of the kettle, the whistle (which could not be switched off on my model) was very annoying.

The cheapest kettle from Argos would be better
Cannot agree with other positive reviewers. Unfortunately this kettle was a waste of money for us. The lid stopped closing properly after only having it a couple of months. Once you have finally got it to stay shut it just pops open when it is boiling which means you have to risk burning your hand closing it whilst the thing is bubbling away. Just seems too much bother and not worth the pain of sending it back to the manufacturer at our cost so will have to use old one or buy a new on instead.

Also, be warned it is very light, flimsy and plasticky, no way as handsome as in the photo.

Looks good and fast
Love the design and the colour, really simple, but cool, statement. Really fast, and cheap. Smart buy.
