The game servers will stop in February 2009 for EU and US.Hellgate London was doomed from the start.
If you don't pay for the servers you will play with low-class characters (yes you paid for the box, but you are still second-class citizen to them).
If you pay you are allowed to play with high-class ones. Unbelievable ? I know.
Anyway the game sucked big time so it does not matter anymore:
The game servers will be closed in February 2009 for EU and US and will only be playable in Asia (Korea and Japan). It's a license issue so there is little chance players will be able to connect from outside Asia.
Just search the web for "hellgate" "london" "february" to get all the details about this.
Worst game ever ? Probably not, but close.

Don't buy this game unless you like playing solo offlineDon't buy this game the company (Flagship Studios) who made it no longer exists and when January 31st 2009 comes around the company currently supporting the multiplayer servers (Namco-Bandai) will be dropping their support and the US and EU servers will close.
Now on the other hand you can still play the game offline in a Singleplayer function (which is good if you can find the latest singleplayer patch online). It's not as great as the multiplayer was though (and things that were subscriber only for the multi don't appear in the singleplayer).

The worst game EVER made!Ignore the one star review. I wish Amazon allowed a zero stars option for the review but it won't.
This really a god awful game. Its pretty but that cannot make up for the fact that it seems to have been created from a list of how not to make a computer game. I've just completed it, sludging through uninteresting and unchallenging level after repetitive level only because I paid good money for the thing and once you are personally invested in a story (even a really bad story) you tend to want to know what happens at the end*
Repetition is really the keyword to this game, its pointless grinding against random targets from start to finish. a sort of plot has been tacked on afterward but following that will only lead to an expectation of a conclusion, and such an expectation will only disappoint. The engine sucks, making farming next to pointless. The customization is more of a hindrance than a help because you can quite easily improve your kit to the state where you can no longer equip it (at least not for a good few levels), with no warning and no option to remove mods. No shop in the game will ever sell you anything of use except for healing, everything in the shops will always be way below your current needs and thus worthless. Once you reach about half way through the game you gain xp at such a slow rate as to make leveling almost worthless.
The speech is moronic in its attempt to be 'British' and the given the guide forgets to include most of the information needed to play the game and there is no tutorial, you'll need Google and a few hours time just to grasp how to play the game.
*to save other poor sods having to put up with the dire gameplay to find out, I'll tell you ... nothing happens. Absolutely nothing at all. All the clues you have collected mean nothing and have no point. The promised climax of 'doing this will defeat the bad guys' just doesn't. You simply beat the last boss and a new one appears in a bit of film saying "ha ha, you lose, please walk through that portal to exit the game with no victory or feelings of accomplishment whatsoever".
Trust me when i say, please save yourself the heartache and buy anything else instead. It's a blessed relief that Flagship went under.,

BrilliantBought this game on the recommendation of a magazine, didnt regret it once. A great game but it can become repetative, theres a limited number of different mission types. But despite this, the game is certainly worth playing, I suggest trying various character types to find one that suits your style. Once the game is patched the creases get ironed out and it becomes even better. Much recommended!!!

I love it!I am an ex-D2 player and I stopped bitching and whining about games not working my way some time ago. In short: The game works. I love it. If you do not like it when a game gives you hell then you should avoid this one. The title makes this somewhat obvious.
