Amazon.co.uk ReviewDirector Robert Zemeckis (IForrest Gump/I, IContact/I) had a hit with this 1984 comedy that first teamed Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito. Turner steals the show from the guys, however, playing a pushy romance novelist who gets stuck among some dangerous figures in Colombia and has only a rumpled guide (Michael Douglas) as an ally. The chemistry between the stars in iRomancing the Stone/i is infectious (the trio went on to make a sequel, IThe Jewel of the Nile/I and then an interesting, dark comedy directed by DeVito, IThe War of the Roses/I). Zemeckis--whose speciality at the time was creating set pieces of raucous action (as in his IBack to the Future/I)--keeps things hopping with lots of kinetic material. I--Tom Keogh/I

Look at those snappersAs the story starts we are treated to a realistic western and look back at the cover to be sure we have the correct DVD. Yep it is the correct one.
br /
br /A romance novelist, Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner of "Body Heat" 1981 fame) wants to fall in love with the type of hero she created in her novels. Fat chance she has hanging around her New York City apartment.
br /
br /Perchance her sister Elaine (Mary Ellen Trainor), looking for the other body parts of Elaine's dismembered husband, is kidnapped and ransomed by ruthless people, (Danny DeVito and Zack Norman.)
br /This just happens to be in Columbia. It seems that there are other interested parties that are down right vicious.
br /
br /Will Joan Wilder find the type of romance she writes about or just a snot?
br /
br /Prepare for a great adventure.

br /The movie was filmed in Mexico. I have not been to Columbia but I have seen several of the places in Mexico. It does not diminish the film what so ever.
br /
br /I saw this film several times previous to the Blu-ray packaging and I really can not say if the resolution or jut big screen TV makes a difference. However looking at the extra footage make me feel that they did a good job of restoration.
br /
br /The Blu-ray edition has several extras.
br /Danny explains why he likes to use the word "maricon!"
br /The deleted scenes are really alternate scenes.
br /--------
br /If you like juggle adventures with home bound people do not miss "Call Me Bwana" (1963) with Bob Hope

WOOOOO!!! Kathleen turner and creepy Michael Douglas!!!!I absolutely ADORE this film. Its an absolute classic 80's adventure/romance with an absolutely perfect cast (Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas Danny DeVito)
br /The basic plot is; romance novelist Joan Wilder(Turner)finds her sister is in trouble is told to bring a map to get her back. Anyway, on the way she manages to get on the wrong bus in the middle of the jungle and when it crashes she pays a passing, useful man; Jack (Douglas) to help her get back. To cut a long story short they get into all sorts of adventures, end up following the treasure map (of course)themselves and (obviously) fall in love too.
br /If you like predictable yet entertaining 80's ish films then this is absolutely perfectfor you! 5 Stars

Enjoyable spin-off from the Indiana Jones pictures.Romancing the Stone is an enjoyable spin-off from the Indiana Jones pictures, with Turner, Douglas and DeVito all giving deft performances in a film with just about the right mix of action, comedy and love interest. Some reviewers have lambasted it, others have gone over the top with praise. The former do so because they have regarded it with a critical highbrow eye, and the film clearly has no aspirations to be seen on a high intellectual plane; the latter because they mistake entertainment for quality. On its own level, there is no doubt that the film is highly entertaining, but it is all done within a simplistic and formulaic plotting which never gives way to real suspense or surprise. There isn't even anything original or awe-inspiring in the action sequences, and the villains are too comic-book to be seriously evil. Where the picture does impress is in the wonderful interplaying between Douglas and Turner at a level which brings the best out of the unextraordinariness of the story, to the extent that you almost look forward to the scenes between them which link the action sequences, rather than vice versa. As a whole, it doesn't have the flair, panache and thrilling cutting edge of Raiders of the Lost Ark, but then again, it didn't have Steven Spielberg to provide them, although the direction of Robert Zemeckis does show touches of the style he was later to bring to the Back to the Future trilogy and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Great fun, a real adventure to watchThis video classic brings in the three most popular genres: action, comedy and romance. The on-screen chemistry between Douglas and Turner is the source of its success, their repartee is electric. I thought the music in it was perfect. It is an extremely underrated film, you forget how good it really is. Definitely one to keep in the video cabinet!

Brilliant adventure movieI wish they made more adventure movies like this one. It's such fun to watch, even on repeated viewings. All the actors are great in their roles, particularly De Vito. It's got romance, it's got adventure, it's got laughs, a great movie all round!
