Another Monty Python Review`Another Monty Python Record' is exactly what it says on the tin, another Monty Python record following on from `Monty Python's Flying Circus' drawing material from the second series of the TV show. No one not expecting the Spanish inquisition would feel truly at home with this album.
br /
br /With signing to Charisma records, home of Genesis in the seventies, The Python's moved slightly away from just creating new links between the soundtrack of the TV show to re-recording the sketches to make it suit the media better and using the technology to further their humour. The best example of this would be the closing of the Piranha Brothers piece with a gangster apologising as the record appears to be stuck `Sorry squire I've scratched the record' repeated until the listener would get up to investigate when it would continue. Such jokes are diminished by the advent of the CD re-issue.
br /
br /The material is chosen to suit the construction of a radio rather than a TV sketch show and used to great effect on the Spanish inquisition and most notably spam, spam, spam,spam...
br /
br /So sit back and enjoy in the comfy chair, `No, no, not the comfy chair'.

Very, very funnyThis wasn't the first Python record, but it's one of the best. The great thing about Python records was that they were conceived specifically as records; the original vinyl version of 'Matching Tie and Handkerchief' had two grooves on the B-side running side by side, so that it was a largely random matter which one you got to listen to whenever you put the needle down. Likewise, some of the best and freshest stuff on here was written specifically for the record.

br /'Another Monty Python Record' contains some classic sketches such as the 'Ethel the Frog' documentary on the Piranha Brothers and 'Spam', and while present-day fans complain that the records sometimes duplicate the TV shows, bear in mind that in the early 1970s, most people didn't even own a VCR and DVD wasn't even invented. Before home taping, listening to the record was the only way you could revisit a great Python sketch short of waiting around for them to be repeated on TV. I was mostly too young to watch Python on TV and encountered a lot of their majesty via these records, so I have a soft spot for them. It should be pointed out that for the CD release the Pythons have seen fit to add quite a lot of material that was cut from the original records, not always with very happy results; some sketches and some jokes go on too long. However, you wouldn't want to miss such audio-only high spots as the Festival Hall sketch, with the eminent but hapless violin soloist Emile Joulbert chronically unable to play his solo without destroying his violin, a situation that eventually culminates in hilarious apocalypse (human sacrifice, carnivorous animals, air attack).
