really good
The zen v is pretty good. The screen is really bright, i can run with it and it won't skip, and the navigation is really good. On the downside. When you put to many songs on it it will keep crashing and you have to reset it on the left side in the little hole(it doesn't delete your music)and after a bit the play\pause and back button feel a bit kind of squeaky plastic like. But it's not a bad problem, i love it and i've dropped it a few times and it's still fine. I think it's better than all my mates i-pods!!!

Zen V MP3 players
I am on my third Zen V. No real problems with software (I'm no techy)or transferring music from Windows Media Player direct to player, or into the Creative Organiser. Sound is great through decent headphones. BUT.. 1) Build quality is poor (volume rocker switch problems on 2 of the players) 2)Joystick cover and stick fell apart on 1 of the players (had it for 18 months so just wrote it off) 3)ALL of them lock-up! Fix is to allow battery to drain, then re-start. One player completely locked (i.e. no re-start)- replaced by Curry's without quibble (even though 9 months old). If player 3 (Zen V 4 Gb version)doesn't hold up, will give up on them.

Very good, with one little hesitation....
Creative Zen V 1 GB

I will start with the little hesitation. It is the slider switch controling the on & off. It does seem a little frail But I do hope that the coming months will prove me wrong.

Otherwise this is a very good MP3 Player.

The software installation is straight forward. I made myself hard work, with my first CD ripping and download to the MP3 Player. (Maybe it was a senior moment thing :-)) In fact, the Creative Media, when installed with the installation disc, does the whole lot for you. Including transferring right away, to the player each track you have just ripped. No messy going into syncro. Wonderful!

It charges up fine from the USB port on your computer. However, I do use the computer a lot. So it is not a problem plugging the Mp3 player in, and letting it charge up. The problem might occur if I were not to be using the computer so much. As yet, I have only a little idea of how much power it uses.

The screen is excellent. It lists all downloads in alphabetical. It is easy to scroll down to find the artist, or album, or track you want to play. It is adequate in size for viewing your photos. And you can create a screen save, and there is a calander as well.

The sound quality is very, very good. It seems quite smooth and with good base definition. The ear phones that come with the MP3 player have pretty good sound quality as well. The wires are attached to little posts, helping to keep them aligned correcty in the ear.

The size is just right. Fits into a small pocket neatly. The phone outlet is at the top. I suppose the scrolling button could be a bit fiddly. But I have quite large fingers and I don't find it that awkward.

So, to sum up. The main attributes, would be the neat menue. The clarity, considering the size of the screen. The size of the unit itself. The sound quality, which is very important, and is very very good.

I am enjoying using all the functions on this player very much. Touch wood, it will be giving me still, much pleasure in using, in months to come.

Good
I bought this for my mum because she wanted to use it down the gym, it was faily easy to copy mp3's from my PC with drag and drop. However you have to load the software to be able to do this which I didn't like and the memory read out (telling how much free space is left) does not work properly, it leads you to believe there is more free space than is actualy available. My mum also had trouble putting together a playlist but I am sure she will figure this out with time. All in all she is very pleased with it.

Avoid this device unless you enjoy software challenge
I purchased TWO of these MP3 players as factory refurb Dec. 2007. I am unwilling to be drawn into known iPod software constraints, and was attracted by manufacturer reputation. The packages were not shipped with installation software but state clearly "Supported OS : Win98SE, 2000, Me, XP". The styling is faultless and I really really want to succeed. However, after more than 1 week of effort the installation process is close to abandonment. As others have discovered, this package is dogged by MAJOR software / driver / OS compatiblity issues. A dialog box asks for a driver, but no driver is to be found anywhere in cyberspace, although I still search. Plenty of firmware update and applications, yes, but no driver.
Unless you have an installation disk, and HAPPEN to have the correct XP version, Service Pack, WMP version and some luck, I suggest AVOID. I am unable to allocate a zero score, so '1' it is. Perhaps a negative score would be better. This is my own fault, not doing the research.
For an MP3 player, one wants 'plug and play', yes? My instinct is to give up the MP3 idea altogether for fear of entrapment, however I may look at a Sony. Hopefully someone can tell me if it will work?
