Match Made in Heaven
Maria's voice, twinned with Dylan's luminous poetry makes this CD one of my desert island discs. It is just divine. Nothing cheesy about it, just heartfelt words, sung in Maria's gorgeous voice. br /Her voice here may be not the one you remember from the 70s. It is deeper and has a sexy gravelly quality to it (I mean that in the best possible way). If anything, I actually prefer her voice here (this was released in 2006) than in her first few albums. br /If you are a fan of Dylan's then you should buy this CD. She sheds new light on his songs, and allows you to hear them in a way that you have never heard them before. I love her version of 'Buckets of Rain' -no one sings it as achingly as she does- and 'You Ain't Goin' Nowhere' was made to be sung by her. I prefer it to both Dylan's original and Joan Baez's version on her album of Dylan covers 'Any Day Now' (another wonderful CD of Dylan covers that I highly recommend). Each track on "Heart of Mine" is great, from start to finish, though I must admit, I prefer Dylan's version of "Lay Lady Lay", which Maria sings "Lay Baby Lay". It's still good, but not as good as Dylan's. br /This, and Joan Baez's "Any Day Now" (or "Baez Sings Dylan" if you are a more casual fan of Baez as it is better value for money) are the two best Dylan cover albums to date.

A Hidden Jewel
If you thought that Brian Ferry's Dylanesque was excellent please take the time to enjoy Maria Muldaur's version of Dylan's love songs. Like me, you may have only heard of Muldaur from the '70s hit Midnight at the Oasis. She has a hypnotic voice that age has not diminished. Judy Collins' "Sings Dylan" is equally magical and highly recommended.
