There truly is no justice any more....
That NEW CAPTAIN SCARLET flounders in virtual obscurity while the embarassingly juvenile & camp nonesense of the new DR WHO is heaped with accolades is just so frustrating! The work that's gone into making it so good deserves far better than the treatment it received, and that the show is now officially 'dead' after just 26 stunning episodes leaves me rather bitter.
Season 2 of this ground-breaking series really does improve on the already excellent first batch of episodes: The animation has been polished for a start, with better lighting effects and softening of edges to make things seem more 'real', while the scripts continue to grow in maturity and concept.
The cast has expanded too, making SPECTRUM seem more of the vast organisation it really is - Captain's MAGENTA and OCHRE add a more human element while the remaining Angels get their chance to shine. Stories are fascinating (and remarkably violent at times!), with STORM AT THE END OF THE WORLD, TOUCH OF THE REAPER and ENIGMA coming across almost as mini-movies as opposed to 21-minute television adventures. There isn't a bad episode present here, and to see them being screened at 9.00 AM week days to a disinterested audience has me seething....

If I have to criticise NEW CAPTAIN SCARLET it's to say that the episodes are too short! I could easily sit through hour-long adventures, these stories are so good - There really should have been more 2-parters here! With one instalment not even featuring the Mysterons at all, the show was starting to branch out into some great directions and there were surely many stories still to be told.

I have nothing but praise for Gerry Anderson and the team behind NCS - It was a truly remarkable achievement and they can be proud of creating something special - The potential was incredible (we never learned enough about the renegade Mysteron faction for example) and we should be in the fourth season of the series by now. That we're not... Like I said, no justice. I can only hope the show becomes a sleeper hit somehow and we get a TV movie or two in the future... What? I can dream can't I?

Even better than the first season
It's hard to find sufficient superlatives for this series. The CGI is in a class of its own for a TV series; the stories are perfectly paced and action packed; the characterisation is excellent. This is probably Gerry Anderson's best work to date and really deserves wider recognition.

"You do not have dominion over things you cannot change!"
Series 2 of the excellent Captain Scarlet has finally made it and now you can get all thirteen uncut episodes.
Following on from the end of The Achilles Messenger in season 1, the Mysterons step up their attacks on Earth and use whatever means they can to eradicate the human population.
This time the creators have expanded the cast to include other Spectrum Agents as regulars, including Captains Ochre, Grey and Magenta. All the characters are developed and their relationships are explored as well.
The revelations behind the true Mysteron agenda are mindblowing and the extent of their powers is most shockingly revealed in Enigma.
The CGI is even better than season 1 with some almost photo-real images in some shots! There are spectacular fight scenes and battles, the kind of stuff Gerry Anderson always wanted to do with the first show but now he has free licence to do anything. The street and air chase in the opening of Duel is a great homage to the Matrix Reloaded freeway chase and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The series is also a lot darker than the first and garners a 12 (not 12a) rating, due to some rather blunt violence. In one episode Scarlet kills a man in cold blood with his bare hands - a scene that was immediately cut from the ITV screening.
A word of caution to viewers is that the DVD set does present the episodes in the wrong order on disc 4. The penultimate episode should be Grey Skulls and the finale to season 2 is Dominion. Get these round the right way and the story makes much more sense!
So, for those big kids out there who remember the original and those who have just begun to watch, this set is a must have for anyone who likes great CGI Sci-Fi!

The most action packed television programme ever made!
In the 1960's Gerry Anderson assembled a wonderful team of committed people who produced a whole series of fantastic ground-breaking Supermarionation shows including Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Joe 90.

He has now done it again by getting together a team of fantastic highly committed professionals to create New Captain Scarlet. Instead of strings there is advanced motion capture of real people's movements and actions. Instead of puppets there are 3D CGI versions of the original characters.

This is not a children's programme but a breathtaking family show on the cutting edge of television technology. It was expensive to make but this series shows what a creative force Gerry can be when given his head.

The directors, CGI animators, lighting technicians etc are very vocal in their support of Gerry and they should be very proud of their achievement. There is simply nothing else like it.

The New Captain Scarlet
This release is the second half (13 episodes) of the 2005 computer generated remake of the original Captain Scarlet. The series came out in England in 2005 and already series one is available on DVD. The series is fantastic and season 2 is even better. Not only are the stories great, but the animation continues to impress. This is a great price for this quality TV series that deserves more recognition.
