Best FPS I've Ever PlayedI'm not going to spend any time reading over the previous criticisms of this game, but I expect the reason it's rated so lowly is because it requires a monster PC to run.
If you don't run at least a 3.0GHz processor, 1GB RAM and a very modern graphics card, then don't bother reading any further.
If you do, then this game offers the most realistic and detailed FPS gameplay available to date, with incredible graphics and two different game modes to choose from. The 'realistic' difficulty setting is extremely difficult and will keep you trying for weeks. The online character editor is good fun, and there are multiple game types available.

Another botched portIts often the case when a console game is ported to the PC, the people responsible for carying out that task make a hash of it. Resident Evil 4 is exemplary in that regard. While Rainbow Six Vegas isn't quite as bad, it is nevertheless very poorly optimised for the PC.
My specs are: Core Duo @ 2Ghz, 2GB of RAM and a Mobility Radeon X1600. Yes, I can hear you cry 'he's running on a notebook!' but let me say that I can play Counter-Strike Source at 1680x1050 averaging 70-90fps, Oblivion averages 30 fps (anything above 25fps in that game is smooth) and FEAR plays fantastic at mostly max settings on 1280x768 (only just got it so I've yet to benchmark). This game however is a shuddering mess even when most of the effects are turned off. No motion blur, no HDR, no AF, playing at 1280x768 and the game runs far from smoothly. I was expecting at least a decent level of performance on low settings but I can't even get that. Therefore, I'd only recommend this game if you have at least a desktop 7600GT or notebook 7800go to run at 'OK' settings or a desktop 7800 and 7900go on notebook for any kind of eye candy. I wish I could comment on the gameplay aspects but the abysmal performance prevents me from doing so.
The bottom line is only buy if you have high end specs - most mainstream GPUs won't suffice.

Not tactical and really annoyingFirst up, this is more run-and-gun than tactical. GRAW is tactical - with just the right level of complexity for planning. Frustratingly difficult at times but you are forced to go slow and BE tactical, which is the point I guess and I loved it. I don't much like Vegas for the opposite reasons. There is no planning element and your team mates are really just decoys that you can use (to good effect though) to send in and out to draw out the enemies. There are a few good points: the snake cam, enemy tagging and room take downs can be good but get a bit dull after a while.
The most annoying thing is the checkpoint system - the save points are too far apart and in the wrong places i.e. not necessarily before a hard section. This means you have to repeat a lot of things like visiting those tedious supply crates each time you die. Unless I missed something the worst thing is (ALL PLAYERS PLEASE NOTE) there is only ONE save slot. Ever. I got about 3/4 through the game but had forgotten how to equip the silencer. The manual is useless as it is a console port but I seemed to remember being told how to do it at the start in the first tutorial mission. I therefore started a new game and then found that my previous game was lost as the single save slot went to the first checkpoint of the first mission. I put the game straight on Marketplace and got rid of it a few days later...
Finally, I hate all the swearing as it meant I had to keep the sound way down in a family environment so that spoilt everything as well.
Having written all this I am going back up to the top of the review to knock a couple more stars off, I have now reminded myself what pants this was. Feel free to give me 'not helpful' review marks, I don't care, this is how it is.
I'm off to play GRAW for a fourth time while I wait for GRAW2 to be patched up before I get that in a few months.
