ENTERTAINING MONSTER FILM

Arriving at an isolated bar, Bozo, (Balthazar Getty) and his friend Hot Legs, (Josh Zuckerman) quickly rub the other patrons, Boss Man, (Duane Whitaker) Tuffy, (Krista Allen) Honey Pie, (Jenny Wade) and the Bartender, (Clu Gulager) the wrong way. When a young couple, (Eric Dane) and his wife, (Navi Rawat) burst into the bar bandying tales about a ravenous group of creatures heading their way, they quickly laugh them off only for the creatures to launch a massive attack and successfully kill off several bar-members. Trapped inside and with no idea how to get free, they try to decide on a course of action only for the attacks to get more severe with every attempt tried. With their numbers dwindling and daylight approaching, the group decides on a desperate course of action to get away from the bar and the creatures.

The Good News: This here was an extremely pleasant surprise. Perhaps it's best attribute is it's incredibly pacing. There's almost nothing wrong with this style, as there's just plenty of action in this one. It's almost wall-to-wall action, as these creatures unleash attacks at practically every turn and forcing defense maneuvers before offensive attacks come into play, putting even more action into the film. That it starts so soon after the credits is a major accomplishment, being so quick to get it's main point across. Under fifteen minutes is when the first attack occurs, and that's the start of it from there just piling on attack after attack. There's really no way to not enjoy them, as there's a large variety in them that every kind is represented. There's the off-screen crash that forces them investigate, the pop-up through the floor, the crashing through the front door or wall, and the sneak attack and grab through an exposed opening all given equal amounts of exposure in here. This gives off a nice variety as there's plenty of time in between the few repeated styles of attack as there's a different kind in between them. The film's other big positive is the generous helping of gore on display. This is a pretty healthy gore-fest, with some really bloody and brutal gags on display. There's an amazing head-crush that simply splatters everywhere in the vicinity, an eyeball pulled out of it's socket and the trail of bloody organs feeding it also pulled out, arms punched completely through body parts, intense scratches over the chest and stomach, a really wicked decapitation that unleashes a torrent of blood and a veritable cornucopia of gunshot wounds that leave a lot of bloody remnants around. There's even more out there, leaving this one with a pleasant aftertaste for gore-hounds. That fact that we never really know what the creatures look like also works, as the brief glimpses offered make them out to be a real threat, and the few times we're offered more they more than look the part and come off as a credible creature. The lack of background information and motive works in their favor as well, as all we know is that they feast on human flesh and that alone makes them a force to fear. That's all that's needed at times, and here is one of them, as it would've been illogical to stop the film to go on a long rant that explains everything about them. This factors all make the film highly enjoyable.

The Bad News: There wasn't a whole lot wrong with this one. The most annoying thing about the film is the little pop-up windows which appear when a character is introduced that gives away vital information about what's going on. This is a quite aggravating feature that provides a few chuckles at first but soon grows tired and really repetitive and after a while becomes a hated gimmick. The film's only other flaw is that, at the worst times, it's cut to the point of uselessness. The quick-cutting done is so overdone and over that it has outlived it's purpose, yet here it manages to impede the film substantially. Things are shown so quickly and so out-of-place that it's nearly impossible to see what's going on, and even worse, it manages to do this when the film's at its best moments. These are shown when the film's action scenes kick in, right at the time when you want to be able to see what's going on. It's more pronounced in the second half where there's more action to be had, but it's throughout the whole movie. These are the film's only real flaws.

The Final Verdict: With a few minor problems that can be quite easily overlooked, the positive points here are far more pronounced and take the film over. Heartily recommended to creature feature lovers, gore-hounds or fans of fast-paced action-packed horror.

[3.5]--"Feast" has a thin plot but supplies a lot of Fun,
It was really good besides one simple unanswered question:

Where the hell did the creatures come from????!!!! First of all the movie has an undeniable good factor about it. Henry Rollins as a second rate Tony Robbins, a Jason Mewes joke, and a truly funny self referential anyone can and will die at anytime vibe all in the first ten minutes sets the table high.

The storyline is nothing ground-breaking, but with the very simple plot, this one makes the most of its cast and writers and turns what could have been a boring dud of a film into an extremely entertaining ride. The movie involves people inside a bar and monsters outside trying to get in. Nothing more. It turns into a surprisingly action packed film for what is basically a one set Rio Bravo remake. Like "Shaun of the Dead" (Another better than anyone could of hoped horror comedy) the characters make the difference.

There is plenty of cannon fodder (Introduced in an almost to long for its own good style of captions rating the various bar patrons survivability) and eye candy and best of all a surprising amount of x-rated violence. (There isn't a body fluid not featured in the movie. Finally an unrated cut that is truly unrated and not just an "R" with some deleted exposition scenes.)

The movie wisely never explains what the monsters are or how they got there. It concentrates on the real time survival of the bar patrons. Did I mention that anyone can die at anytime? Even your best horror movie watching radar will be put to the test as you try to figure out who among the rabble are the prerequisite hero and heroine.

"Feast" again is nothing ground-breaking in terms of concept but has plenty of fun, action, and style covered over by some rough spots. This is simply a good B movie.

Enjoyable horror with its tounge, firmly in its cheek.
Feast tells the story of a group of strangers in a bar, in a small American town. Soon, events take a turn for the worse when a man enters covered in blood talking about monsters outside. A stand off then begins with the people in the bar barricading themselves in to prevent them being killed by the monsters outside.

This film is copied from others which have been done dozens of times before, but is done with so much tongue in cheek humour that it just about gets away with it. Although there are plenty of deaths along the way they don't always happen in the order you would expect. Whilst you don't really care too much about any of them it does add to the enjoyment when they are killed out of sequence when compared to the normal "rules" of a horror film. Gore fans will be happy as there is plenty on show throughout the film.

The action scenes are very fast and at times it is difficult to see what is going on. This seems to be a trick which is seen frequently on low budget films, usually to hide poor special effects. When we eventually see the monster it comes as somewhat of a disappointment. The frenetic editing would have been better to be used again to allow the viewer to imagine how horrific it is, rather than spoil the illusion with a cheap looking effect.

Overall this is film is a good addition to the low budget horror market. It is not something to see if you want deep, interesting characters and numerous plot twists. If however, you want to see a very tongue in cheek horror, with plenty of gore then this is well worth checking out.

Decent little horror flick but why isnt it avadable in the UK yet?
After seeing the adverts and read alot about this film i seriosly had to see it. It was gonna be gory and mabe be up with some of the better horror comedys which are in some what of a craze at the moment.
Yet i was dissapointed, seriosly.
It started off very well, it was fast to begin with early bits of blood and a few decent death scenes litter this film. Yet pointless situations at times (when i say this i mean when a character will say "oh were all gona die" out of no where and make a situation out of it) and the story really doesnt hold as well as it should and could.
In the end i really did wonder why i didnt enjoy this film too much, it had all the making of a great horror film and i am a massive fan of these movies too so usually something with lots of gore would entertain me naturally. Yet there is just something about this film that didnt entertain me as much as it should, funny scenes that really werent that funny in the end and gore scenes that, although they are bloody and are worth seeing if you must, arent anything special in comperation to other ones in films of its kind. Mabe its the same thing that made the Texas Chainsaw Massacre from a B-movie slease into a powerfull classic slasher or what made night of the living dead from an 'anything for a dollar' movie to an all time classic horror, this film is a great movie, god budget or very well made, decent story line that goes along the one a zombie film would (barricaded in a house or pub and fending off the enemy with what you can get from inside) and some creativity yet it just doesnt spark anything it doesnt have that certain thing taht makes films naturallly good films.
Dont get me wrong its a good film and i would reccomend it to anyone whos as big a fan as me yet ill just say its not all that amazing at the end of the day. Plus there is that one fat annoying character who stirrs things up by bieng a fool but in this film it gets a bit annoying at times.

Ill leave it at this, if this film cost about 5.99 or mabe even a tenner then mabe i would reccomend it if it wasnt burning a hole in your poket, but otherwise, spend your money on something else.

Horrible cheese-fest!

To be fair it takes no time to realise what you're getting yourself into when you start watching "Feast". The god-awful captions for every character immediately show that the writers are unwilling (or more likely incapable) of any kind of character development whatsoever so try to disguise the fact by presumably writing 'funny' (in their tiny minds at least) comments about each character's traits, but unfortunately fall way short of even doing that. Of all the blurbs scattered through the film I smiled once but most of the time I cringed, as I'm sure anyone over the age of twelve will do (the aforementioned age being when I assume the writers met each other, last year at school, and wrote this, in an hour, it's impossible to believe they're any older or took any longer!).

But the writers aren't the only ones at fault here; the director took it upon himself to shoot terribly rapid, jerky camera movements, obviously an attempt to hide the pathetic rubber monsters, so then again maybe that's not his fault after all, but either way the camera work was so bad it reminded me of (believe it or not) an even worse film - "Severed". Any child who picks up a camcorder for the very first time and runs around the room spinning it around will end up with a steadier picture.

Anyhow, I digress, the first half of the movie has more cheese than blood, and there is quite a bit of blood, so that's okay and thankfully the second half of the film is less cheesy and therefore less pathetic, but that's possibly only because there are less of the actors around to spew out as much cheese as earlier, so maybe I shouldn't be giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Either way the second half barely raises the movie up to 'below average', taken at face value this doesn't even make it close to a tenth rate 'Tremors - surrounded by monsters' type film, in fact it wouldn't even be a millionth rate knock off, if there were such a thing.

If they'd managed to get someone over the age of twelve to rewrite the script (or failing that plenty of gags to stop any of the actors speaking and also shot the caption maker), someone to create some decent looking puppets and found a cameraman who wasn't suffering from Parkinson's Disease then this might not have been too bad. But alas, they didn't manage to get any of those so we're stuck with yet another waste of celluloid. Shame really, cause I like Jason Mewes!

Just remember, if you are to watch this movie, be sure to bring plenty of nachos to go with the cheese it'll generously provide!
