Not much to add, but...
The other two reviewers got it right, but could I mention three tracks in particular? Firstly, the opener, By Tonight. This is surely the blueprint for the Rolling Stones' Start Me Up! It's heavier, but Richards and co. could well have heard it, and lightened it (so to speak). Then there's Monte Carlo, a brilliant choice for a single - breezy, bouncy and cheerful. Major's guitar solo is one of the best in hard rock, ever. Check out also The Great White Wail, a very heavy number, influenced by 'The Ghost of Clearwell Castle' - Lead Panic and Backing Fear. You've gotta love these humorous boys. Ah. Except for their including the 'rape scene' at the end of the record. Hopefully, the CD has lost this unpleasant nonsense. And the old geezer who says: "Ehh... drive on!" is much funnier. :)

NOTT the Hoople
This group formed when Ian Hunter ran off to do his own thing with Mick Ronson others. They were called Mott, and featured three members of Mott the Hoople together with Nigel Benjamin(vocals) Ray Major(guitar). br /This was their first effort, released in 1975. Most of the songs are penned by 'Hoople' bass player Overend Watts, but the overall feel is more heavy rock then Mott the Hoople. Benjamin also sings at a higher pitch than Hunter but it sits well. The stand out tracks are 'stiff Upper Lip' 'Here We Are'. This is a good album and well worth a listen, but the follow up 'Shouting and Pointing' is outstanding.

A forgotten wee gem
Firstly let's correct the Amazon description. This album is of course by Mott not MTH. This was one of the first re-runs of MTH without Ian Hunter.brI first bought this album on vinyl many moons ago and have been looking for the cd for a while.brI got this a few days ago and am totally won over (again) by the high quality rock music contained in it. The style is somewhere between maybe MTH and Bad Company and maintains a high quality throughout.brYou maybe haven't heard of this album or this group but well worth a try.
