Solid shaver
I've had this shaver for about a year now and am very happy with it's performance and reliability.

It shaves better than any electric shaver I've used, though it is still not as good as a blade. I tend to have a good wet shave every 3-4 days and use this in between as a top up. Face and chin are fine but the neck area is always a problem that no manufacturer has yet solved.

The unit looks very good with it's unusual funky blue patterns and the battery still lasts well - if I'm going away for a week, I don't need to pack the cord. Handy LEDs tell you when it needs charging or has charged (takes about an hour). The trimmer works well for sideburns and rogue eyebrows.

Cleaning is nice and easy, open it and run under the tap for a minute and leave on a towel to dry. If you take the cutters out, you have to put them back in the same place as they came from as they will have "worn in" there.

It comes complete with cleaning brush, protective guard and soft cloth travel pouch and overall is a gimmick-free, solid piece of kit (shop around for the best price).

Bare-faced cheek
What a complete and utter rip-off. The shaver works adequately at first if kept dry (if washed after use the blades take an eternity to dry and the effectiveness is reduced). Then the blades start to diminish quickly so that within a year - at most - they are pretty much blunt. To add the final insult, the battery wears out so fast it can only operate with the cord.

Oh, sorry, that wasn't the final insult - that is that to replace the blades costs half as much as the new unit.

Just stick to Bic.

Great Razor
I have had this razor for about 4 months now and not had a problem at all. It seems to go a very long time without a charge and charges quickly. I chose this razor over others because of both the charging time and the fact that it is both mains and rechargable. Having both is important to me because I dont want to get stuck having to charge it when I am in a hurry and need to shave.

The washable idea is a good one but it does have a draw back. If you try and 'wash' your razor under the tab the three motor heads that connect to the blades dont seem to want to wash properly. I find it is easier to just shake it out and use the brush provided than washing it. You can wash the heads themselves but I wouldn't bother with the rest.

The razor has one strange feature which is that it leaves a small amount of cuttings when you put it down. Maybe I don't clean it frequently enough I don't know but I have not had this problem before with other razors.

I will admit that the closeness of the shave is not the same as a cut-throat or a normal wet razor (I used a mk-3 electric wet razor before switching) but it is quicker and much more convenient (not need for a sink!)

I give this item 4/5 due to the fact the washing feature seems to have not been thought through properly but on the whole I would happily recommend this product to anyone looking for a convenient electric razor that is quick, easy to use and reliable.

Shaving is fine but.....
As electric shavers go this one is pretty good at doing the actual shaving - it gives a good close shave without being rough on the skin, it's quiet and lasts about a month between charges. It's definitely not as good as a wet shave and sometimes you have to go over the same region a few times to get rid of stubborn stubble.

The main problem I have with this shaver is the small catch on the underside of the head. It's there to allow you to empty the clippings every once in a while, however, it's really badly designed. It's so loose that whenever I put it into a suitcase or a bag the head will open during transit, dumping clippings all over whatever else is in the bag. Even if you put it in a separate plastic bag you still have to deal with a shaver thats covered in clippings, which is a right pain.

If you don't ever travel this shaver is great. If you do, don't bother, it's more hassle than it's worth.

A good no frills shaver
After 25 years I decided to replace my Phillips shaver, it was well past it.
I decided I wanted another Phillips but did not want expensive after sales options like Nivea moisturiser cartridges or self cleaning cartridges.
I went for the HQ7180, a standard shaver with a beard trimmer and the ability to clean the shaver under a hot tap. The shaver is more than satisfactory, it gives a good close smooth shave. Previously my old shaver left red marks on my skin and sometimes I had to deal with stubborn stubble with a wet razor. This razor certainly works and the beard trimmer also does eyebrows. Hopefully I will have many future years service with this razor and have avoided the ongoing cost of moisturiser cartridges etc.
