A close shave (1.5mm to 18mm)I bought this product after some researching - it does not state on the Amazon product details or Philips website (unless I missed something) what lengths the 9 lock-in settings are (my previous trimmer started at 3mm which is too long for me), so I've included the length settings for convenience.
Length settings: 1.5mm, 2.5mm, 4mm, 5.5mm, 7.5mm, 9.5mm, 12mm, 15mm and 18mm.
I found it to be quite comfortable to shave with and the vacuum works well - my last trimmer was quite messy with lots of hairs around the sink, not so with this one :)).
On the minus side, as stated in other reviews the length setting tends to change of its own accord (and very easily too!!) - luckily I prefer a 1.5mm stubbly beard (lowest setting) so it's not really a problem for me at the moment though I am considering shaving at the 2.5mm and will have to perfect the technique for holding the length setting in place (not particularly comfortable, but I can live with), so you will need to consider whether the risk is worth taking or not.
Good product but comes with a risk for people who like their beards a little longer.

Very pleasing all round trimmer...I brought this last year and still use it to this day - like any form of technology, its not without its flaws, but looking past that it does what its set out to do - trim hair - very efficiently
Plus points to the item is that its quick, very tidy due to the brilliant vacuum design and easy to clean out when need-be.
The only things that do frustrate me is that (and im not sure because its nearly a year old) is that the comb doesnt stay and when the slightest bit of pressure is applied. For example: you could be trimming at a "number 4" and you can push a little harder and it would be set for a "number 2" and you only relise after your hair is a little more patchy them you wanted... But, still, its a hurdle that can be easy overcome.
Battery life is decent to be honest and last quite a whilst, even though (and this is me being picky) if product has died, it wont trim whilst its charging, like most trimmers allow you to do.
But, all in all, its definatly a buy and is excellent on all body hair, if you like keeping it neat and tidy!

Absolutely hostile to the environmentI won't even bother commenting on whether this is a good shaver or not, I just wanted to bring your attention to the fact that this device damages the environment in many ways. I strongly believe that 10 hours charging time for 35 minutes of operation is totally unacceptable! In times where we are trying to cut down on electricity consumption and carbon emissions as much as possible, that's a lot of wasted energy! Also bear in mind that since you can't use the device while it is connected to the mains, the battery will eventually die (a similar Philips shaver I had only lasted 4 years), and since it is not replaceable it will simply become waste (i.e. additional environmental burden). I don't really understand why Philips have chosen to keep it that way, the technology is there, their QC5070 hair clipper is excellent, it charges in less time and can be used with or without a cord. In the USA they also have the T980 trimmer which is similar to the QT4045 but charges in just 70 minutes and is suitable for both corded and cordless operation. The only reason I see for them not to provide such a product in the European market is to make you buy a new one when the battery in your QT4045 (or the one in similar products in their men's grooming line-up) dies and the device is no longer operable.

The Best TubovacThis easily beats the standard old method of shaving with scissors and Dyson. The Dyson was way too unwieldy, particularly when doing those tricky inaccessible parts of the body. Much easier to handle and doesn't threaten to suck up all of your clothes while you shave!
