Brilliant Bedside Buddy Bug
We listen to an audiobook on this EVERY night, it's fantastic. Just pop your SD card in the back and you've got anything you want. The feature of being able to pause live radio etc is great too. But lots of lovely thought through features like the fact that the sleep timer (which I don't know how we'd live without!) fades gentley out, rather than just suddenly stopping. And you can change the brightness of the screen (it's worth reading the manual so you can discover all the cool things you can do!). The ONLy one tinyweeny downfall we've discovered is the steps in the volume, which are quite large - one point is too loud and the next too quiet with no in between. But by the far the best radio we've ever had. Greatly recommended.

Great if you can live with the bright light and clicky buttons
As with our other Pure DAB radio (Pure One)the reception, sound quality and functions such as the ability to pause and pre-programme to record to SD card are fantastic.
Be warned however that the performance as a clock radio is likely to disappoint some. As others have stated the glow from the display, even on the lowest setting, still lights the room and we certainly couldn't sleep with this. The only option is to set the display so that is switches off completely on standby. Whilst this does the trick you are unable to see the time during the night without hitting the 'light up' button.
The other frustrating point is the noisy, 'clicky' buttons. Sounds picky I know, but this is a problem when you set the alarm while your partner is already asleep. The alarm setting proceedure is also quite lengthy, albeit easy, if you are changing the time - at least a dozen depressions. As it happens after 3 months the Bug developed a screen & software fault and has just today been replaced with the much cheaper Pure Siesta which is very small, sounds great, has silent buttons and best of all a light sensor which dims / brightens the display to the sort of level you would expect. Why didn't they do this on the Bug?!

GREAT DESK RADIO & VERY NEARLY THE PERFECT BEDSIDE RADIO.
HAVING USED A BUG2 AS MY DESK RADIO FOR OVER 12 MONTHS I WAS SO PLEASED WITH THE EASE OF USE RADIO CLARITY & BUILD QUALITY I DECIDED TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE FOR MY BEDSIDE USE AS IT HAS ALL THE FUNCTIONS I NEEDED, ALARM, SLEEP TIMER & SNOOZE & ALSO WITH ITS WIDE HEAVY BASE ITS VERY STABLE & THEREFOUR HARD TO KNOCK OF THE TABLE WHILST GROPING FOR THE SNOOZE BUTTON IN THE MORNING, ONE BIG PROBLEM (I really wish I had read these reveiws before getting one for the bedroom) THE LOWEST LIGHT SETTING IS FAR TO BRIGHT SO ITS EITHER BATHING THE ROOM IN A WEIRD BLUE LIGHT OR ON THE NEXT BEST SETTING COMPLETELY OFF & UNREADABLE, I AM GOING TO EXPERIMENT WITH CAR WINDOW FILM TINT OFFCUTS TO TRY & MAKE IT USEABLE AS I DONT GIVE UP THAT EASILY BUT REALLY WISH THEY HAD A LOWER LIGHT SETTING AS STANDARD.

Pure Bad Luck
I was absolutely delighted with my Bug Too for a month....
Then it started to malfunction.

Standby started to not work sporadically.
It would lose the time setting making it impossible to set timer.
It would freeze up at start up with the message "tuning.

I appealed for some goodwill from Pure suggesting they
should pay the postage and send me a new one, but no luck.
The Warranty clearly states "return to base".

Not much Xmas goodwill from them.

Very good DAB radio alarm, very poor as a clock
Other reviewers have adequately covered the very good DAB radio functions of the Bug Too. It has the clever extras of the ability to pause live radio, record onto the separately purchased SD card and an Electronic Programme Guide, all of which I find very good. A niggle is that the control 'rocker' button is fiddly and does not always recognise 'clicks' properly.

The alarm function is similar to the radio in that it is function rich.

However as a clock in the bedroom I find it useless. I took insufficient notice of the previous comment that even on 'low' display setting the display is too bright. It is MUCH too bright even on 'low' display setting, shining into my eyes at night and bathing the whole bedroom in unacceptable levels of light. Therefore I have to set the display to 'off' meaning that on standby the display cannot be seen so I cannot see the time at night, in the morning when I wake up early, or indeed at any other time when the device is on standby.

This seems a silly problem to have, one the manufacturer could have spotted if they had taken a prototype of the machine on home trial in the bedroom at night.

So if you want this for a kitchen, or anywhere that is not a bedroom, I recommend it. For the bedroom just don't expect to be able to use it as a clock.
