Who are these people?
I literally can not believe the rave rewiews this got. I have absolutley loved every episode of the Royle Family and have watched them over and over again for years, except for this one.

I really wish they had never made this as for me its one of the worst things ever made on British television.

As another review has pointed out, the characters in this are not the same characters that were in the first 3 series.

Things that made no sense or were completley ridiculous:

1) Nana sleeping downstairs - Jim would never in a million years allow this
2) Jim crying about batteries for the tv remote - Cry? dont think so somehow, he would be annoyed but he wouldnt cry and whimper in the kitchen like this
3) Anthoney is some big buisness man going to conferences, erm...I dont think so
4) Baby (Little) David lookin and acting like Dave - What?
5) Cheryl dating and always ends up with some stupid bloke made just for a cheap laugh
6) Nana dies and denise is running - Denise would NEVER run, not even for her dying Nana
7) Twiggy at the hospital - As if he would be there
8) Jim been stupidly horrible to Anthoney after he gives him £50, Jim would never be like that.
9) The scenes of Jim and Nana getting on well made me want to kill myself it was so cheesy
10) The awful music to cut from scene to scene (badly by the way)
11) Nana making remarks about Barbara when shes cutting her hair (Jeremy Clarkson and Sweeney Todd). As if nana would say things like that. Remeber in an earlier series "You know, the one with the man dressed as a chicken", now THATS Nana!
12) Why did they have to have the hospital bit anyway??? What was the point? She dies in the house when Barbara finds her, whats the need for the hospital?
13) Whats the point in Dave reading to Nana?
14) Whats the point in the Karate and impressions things that Little David and Lewis do?

Theres many more but Im boring myself now.

Buy the series and pretend this nonsense NEVER happened

Not Royle Enough
When I heard that a one off special of one of the greatest TV comedies was being produced, I couldn't wait. So - when I finally got to see it, I was unfortunately left disappointed. For me, the writing is nowhere near the same standard as the previous three series. The lack of 'real time' in the episode makes it seem like a different show. Jim Royle has gone from being the miserable sod with a heart of gold to a downright nasty person. His treatment of Dave and Anthony in this show left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. Touching when Nana passed away but overall short on quality laughs, certainly not up to the standard of series 1,2 and 3.
A shame.

Brilliant
This was a brilliant return for the Royle family and gave a real end to the show. It was great how all the characters could return to make it more real.

A Must have for all fans of the Royle family.

fantastic comedy
this is a fantastic piece of comedy writing and it is one of the funniest sit-coms ever to grace our tv set.

But why do Amazon want you to buy the Queen of Sheba seperately when it is already included in the box set?

The Box set is a must buy for genuine comedy fans!!!! Just dont be conned into buying the other one as well.

awesome!!
Omg!! i watched this last night and i was gobsmacked!!Beautiful all the way through ,with the wit and wisdom as per usual coming from all four corners of the partly laminated floor,from the "mini me" of Big and little Dave,the hair extensions of ever fashionable Denise(babes),the loves and losses of Cheryl.The ape dance cracked me up as much as the touching scenes when Jim was "congaing" with nanna and her zimmer frame-we always knew he loved nanna,and the hospital scenes had me choking back the tears.Big well done to all concerned in this production!!!!!
Feel maybe,just maybe we werent quite up to spec on the Anthony and Emma thing tho-what happened?

Oh and as an afterthought-what about a quickie about the supposed money Nanna was accused of hiding so many times?Perhaps enough for them to have a well earned holiday? xxxxx
