A mediocre Improvement
The new Hellsing Ultimate OVA series is vastly improved when looked at side-by-side with the original, but in the long run is hardly impressive when stacked up against the work of say, Shinichiro Watanabe (Creator of Cowboy Bebop). The series is plagued by lazy animation shortcuts, issues with continuity, characters blurting out exposition and plot points left right and centre and terrible blood spray effects. At first glance you could even be forgiven for thinking this Ultimate OVA is just a moderately well-done fan remake of the original.

If you consider yourself to be anything close to an Anime purist when it comes to plot and animation, the new Hellsing OVA is missable by a fairly considerable margin.

does anyone know if hellsing ultimate even exists as a region 2 dvd? lol coz i need one well i need/want them all lol and i cant seem to find them anywere.

Hellsing Ultimate Series OVA 1
This is a must have for all Hellsing Fans.
Much darker than the original Animie series, this is much closer to the Manga books. The down side I found was that this first volume seemed a little disjointed. The animation is far superior, the music is great, but the story seemed to jump from one thing to another without a real link. On saying that the Alucard v Andersson fight was far better and the priest in Chedder was a far more nasty character.
I await the OVA2 with baited breath. If you like Hellsing you love this.

if you like the manga, then your in for a treat
The OVA series follows the manga volume much more closely than the TV series ever did. The animation (though somewhat dated CGI) is similar to the manga and, in my opinion, is the better for it. Thankfully the TV cast have all remained to voice the OVA however there is also the option of watching the original japanese version as well.

Can't wait for OVA II!
