dissapointing and dulli have to agree with all the people who found the game dull. i have been playing point and click games for a couple of years and this is the first one that i can't be bothered to finish. the lack of interaction with other characters makes it very tedious, the atmosphere isn't remotely spooky and it is occasionally unintentionally hilarious. i've been playing for about 4 hours, not sure i'm going to carry on....

The creepy, brooding atmosphere is unremitting in this highly intelligent mystery/horrorBe afraid...be very afraid! This is the most intelligent, engrossing and interesting game of its kind I've played as well as managing to be the scariest. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is managed by the old fashioned method of suggestion and what's under the bed or in the wardrobe rather than shlock horror and gore. Having said that, the constant sense that something is going to happen any minute...well,..sometimes it DOES! But ya just never know when see...!
~The puzzles are intriguing and intelligent, very much intertwined with the story line. Reading the researchers' materials on such as trees, mushrooms, stone circles etc. is not only interesting but necessary! Never boring, never contrived just for the sake of having a puzzle.
Starts off, it's night time and you're in your car driving along a long dark, lonely country road in deepest Cornwall, listening to the local radio station. You turn down this lane, pitch black except for your headlights, and the engine cuts...
You try a few things (naturally) but you soon find that you're left with one option...leaving the car and walking further up the lane. All the time, getting farther away from the headlights and further in to the silence and pitch darkness..and just the crunch of your own footsteps on the road. It took everything I had to do that walk I can tell you and that atmosphere sets the tone for the whole game. There's very little let up.
There's been an archealogical dig locally and it's disturbed something ancient and powerful and, well, where did everyone go? Absolutely everywhere is deserted...except for YOU! I'm still looking for anything to match this adventure. Loved it. Wouldn't want to play it alone though...Enjoy!

Waste of moneyPlayed on Windows Vista64bit(Run as admin)
I got this game off the back of having completed "The Lost Crown"(made by the same person). And I am highly dissapointed with Barrow Hill. First off its a first person perspective, which i hated, i much prefer a 3rd person view, so i can see my character, and watch them interact with the surroundings. Secondly there were hardly any people to interact with during the whole game, a total of 2(unless you count animals, 3). I prefer to interact with NPC's to gather information, but here its like school work, where you have to read pages & pages of dialogue from books or notes ZZZzzzzz.....The story is dull as dishwater and totaly laugable at points. The voice acting is amateur. The only thing going for it, is the half decent graphics, although the characters look so cheap, it makes me cringe thinking that i paid for this. Each to their own, just not my cup of tea at all, but if it sounds good to you, have a go.

NO POINT and clickFelt compelled to write my first Amazon review. I played most of the point and click games out there including the other great titles from this publsher (dark fall etc), however just to warn any avid adventure gamer how dissapointing this game was! No atmosphere and unengaging can't understand WHY its had so many good reviews!

Waste of moneyI bought this on the basis of its good reviews, sadly I am very dissapointed with the whole game. This may have impressed me 15years ago but the whole experience of playing was slow, frustrating and I lost interest very quickly. The only plus point was the art and sound but it is still out dated.
