Comprising a short small band set and a long big band set this disc is worth owning for the latter. While not disputing Dizzy's greatness he is not one of my favourite trumpeters; place him in front of the storming Clarke Boland big band however and you have a session that is unmissable. The band supports Gillespie admirably and makes him sound more musical than ever. If the disc has one flaw it is that the band and its soloists are not more heavily featured; its strength is that it allows us a rare chance to see this powerhouse all-star band in action.
