a dab of a radio
I bought this for the daily train commute to listen to radio 4 and drown out those boring phone conversations that people seem to have without the slightest sign of embarrassment. The quality of the DAB reception is undoubtedly first class and well beyond FM as you can readily check as it does both. However, it is an all or nothing reception - it is either first class or it squawks and goes silent. It does seem to need a line of sight for reception ie not possible in tunnels, but view of the sky does not guarantee reception. On my journey into London the reception varies consistently at the same spots so the coverage is not even for some reason. Regarding the radio itself, the controls are fine and easily understood but the on/off switch is not positive and needs a lot of pressing to operate - I have left it on by mistake on numerous occasions. The radio is on the large side but feels light and unsubstantial but fits comfortably into a jacket pocket and the quality of the earphones is fine though I found them uncomfortably large so they always seemed loose.

Brilliant, very impressed.
A treat for christmas. I've just received my pure pocket Dab 1500 radio and I think it's great, I'm so impressed with it.
I also brought some Sennheiser HD201 Closed Back Headphone which are the big head phones which cover the whole ear(these are great well worth the money) I can't get on with the small plug in ear phones, but I'll use them when out side.I'm a great listener to Radio 4 and 7 and the reception on DAB setting is brilliant.I've found so many new programmes to listen to I've not put it down when at home.
I was really worried that the reception would not be very good because mobile phone reception is terrible. Too my surprise purfect reception.
I found it easy to use and programme, considering I'm not very techi.
A great little radio which is going to be used often.

Pure PocketDAB 1500 Personal Rechargeable DAB/FM Digital Radio
I bought this portable dab radio for use whilst walking and cycling, ie for outside pursuits. So I can only vouch for the performance of this device as my main use was as above. The clarity and reception of dab radio is superb with no crackling or hiss from normal FM radio, how ever this radio does not like concrete ie subways and the like. Indoors can be a problem as there can be a problem with reception as the ear phone is the aerial , this wasn`t a dissapointment as this radio is portable and in my eyes designed for out door use which suits my needs perfectly. In short I can`t understand all the negative reviews in relation to reception etc I live in London so reception is not a problem. I would recommend this device to any one using it for outdoor pursuits but it is equally as good for work or indoors as long as you keep the ear phones taut. Overall I am pleased with my purchase

Great for the communte
I bought this for my commute from Brighton to London and I find it perfect for the journey. Yes there is the occasional drop-out (in tunnels and also at some stations). Occasionally I'll need to switch it to FM where the DAB signal is weak, but for a vast majority of the journey it is absolutely fine, and the battery lasts ages, it is very light and the aluminum body gives me piece of mind that it won't be broken by being knocked about in my lap-top bag. Highly recommended.

Don't believe the (bad) hype!
Having done extensive research about DAB radio and wanting a portable one to take to football matches I went for this radio from Pure. All the bad reviews seem to focus on the poor reception. If you check out before you buy, the areas you live or work etc. you can then make a judgement whether it's worth buying. I did and all areas I use the radio in were listed as "should have reasonable reception" whilst this didn't fill me with confidence I can say that the reception is great in these areas. Sometime you lose signal a bit when travelling but this is when you are going in and out of signal areas. I have never yet had no signal at all.
I would recommend this radio especially for the battery life, a common DAB problem is that it drinks the batteries and therefore it is great to have a rechargeable pack with this radio, it charges in a couple of hours tops and last for 5-6 hours. Expensive at £70 odd but well worth the extra money for the rechargeable pack and the size (it will fit in most pockets no problem).
