I really enjoyed this DVD.I love the excitement of dakar.It looked very hard race,but they looked like they had a lot of fun.I like the extras (dakar crashes)And how good looking is nick plumb (yum a licious )If the men in walse look that good I am moving.My heart gos out to andy faimly.Well done charley,And thankyou for making an excellent dakar dvd.I loved it so much I am buying the book.

Ouch, that training had to hurt...
The lovable Charlie takes to the wilds once again having opening his mouth during a LWR interview. So you see the man grow into a credible challenger against the wilderness as his skills improve and his mood swings continue.

It can be hard to always have empathy with him when he appears to be a spoilt child, but he does make good in the end, proving that it is definitely the taking part that counts.

I enjoyed this one, it was light weight easy fun in a way that LWR was not. This is a race, not an expedition and it shows the harsh challenges that they face. Yes they are brave, but was Charlie mad to attempt it? You decide at the end.

Worth renting, not worth buying
What can I say - its gritty, production values arent as strong as Long Way Round or Long Way Down. They are all clearly nuts in a good way.

Not much else to say - worth renting for a winter night by the fire but wouldn't buy it (though Long Way Round and Long Way Down are worth owning!)

Well worth watching
I bought this having watched Long Way Round and wasn't disappointed, even though the adventure Charley Boorman undertakes here is a lot different.

A really tense, exciting documentary. And you don't even have to be into bikes to enjoy it.

The side of Dakar they don't want you to see
This DVD will be judged against Long Way Down and in many ways unfairly so. It's the same production team, same cameraman, one of the 'cast', same music etc... On the other hand it's a very different subject (a 16 day race instead of a 4 month adventure). To wrap up the comparisons, Long Way Round is for anyone who longs for epic adventures, Motorbike fan or no. Race To Dakar is for the off road fanatic.

I had seen parts of the Dakar rally on TV numerous times, but there's nothing like this on a sports channel. Charlie Boorman attempts the hardest race in the world with two other riders and a support team. Throughout the show you realise how this race is a living hell and my opinion of the rally is now extremely low.

The DVD shows you how the rally has no respect for the life or wealthfare of the participants or the lives of the people who live on the course. Riders are killed or left without money and transport in foriegn countries and spectators killed.

This is a huge eye opening DVD and though the participants who make it have acheived something huge I think there are far better ways to get your kicks. I would be very disappointed if Charley were to attempt it again now he's seen it and shown us it first hand.
