Great Drive. Careful of the case.
I have to say 5 stars for the actual hard drive. It's worked perfect for two years consistantly having lots of date put on and taken off. You can leave this thing on all the time and it does not get too hot and when it is on it is really quiet. The 400gb blue light is pretty cool too.

However I would warn buyers to be careful when mooving it around as the connections within the case can fail & or overheat especially if you are mooving it around during the summer.

My case failed just out of the warranty period (about 1 year) then my replacement case failed in about the same time. Bad luck? Maybe.

If yours does fail outside of the warranty period a pc shop may charge a lot to fix or put a cheap case on/backup your data & cases are quite cheap.

However it is basically a hard drive in a box with usb gubbins so all the connections inside are standard PC so if the drive does 'fail' outside the warranty period it's worth taking it to a pc knowing friend to make sure it's not just case failure.

Seemed great...until now.
Bought this from Amazon about 14 months ago. Worked fine and agreed with the other positive comments - until now. Increasing rhythmic humming/vibration over a period of a few days until the disc failed completely.

Will NOT be getting Freecom again and would advise strongly against it. Not a good investment bc of its ridiculously short lifespan.

mine crashed!
I purchased one of these in April, not from Amazon, and it crashed in July for no obvious reason. I have lost all of the data transferred in those three months and have concerns about the security of the personal data on the disc. The retail outlet have told me that they safely dispose of all equipment. Of course they do! At least I am getting a refund.
Freecom UK did not even bother to respond to an e-mail of complaint.
I am now looking for another external drive but Amazon users reviews seem to indicate that all manufacturers have problems with products failing and permanent loss of data. Can I go back to a pencil and a piece of paper?

Freecom rubbish
Dead on arrival and the Freecom UK support was terrible, ignoring phone calls, messages and emails to various departments. Finally had to write to the Euro HQ who kicked them up the backside and made them refund my money. Keep away from them. The warranty is worthless, and a promise is a comfort to a fool!

Good Drive
Just received today, easy to set up,fairly quiet in use and quite quick. Neat looking as well. Only GRIPE is that it comes with a 2 pin American type power lead...POOR SHOW AMAZON, if its sold for uk use it should have standard UK power lead
