Another JD exploitation product!
Thanks for the helpful reviews! It seems that this is yet another attempt by some bunch of chancers to cash in on the Joy Division bandwagon! There is very little quality footage of them audio or video, outside of the main work that was published by Factory or was on Granada. There are some, but not many good clips on Youtube. One of my faves being of a gig they did in Altrincham at Bowdon Vale Youth Club...Honestly, its great! There are also some good quality vids of their sessions on "so it goes" etc. Why put your money into the grubby mitts of the parasites that threw this DVD together, when you can see better for free!

Differing opinions..
Sorry to disagree with the people below me, but I found the documentary to be a great introduction to the band. I've been a fan of their music for the last few years since a friend introduced me to them, but had never taken the time to read about their history or even the members. Perhaps someone who is a 'seasoned' fan will find it repeating things they know already, but for me and i'm sure for anyone who isn't a hardcore fan, it is a fantastic resource for knowledge and insight into the band. Some of the music clips were lacking in quality slightly, but I don't see how that's a bad thing! When I take into consideration that these are unseen clips that were recorded in the seventies.. I think the quality is fine, and it seems to add an air of authenticity and timeline to the videos. I thought it was great, glad I bought it.

Can't Anton compile it!
Having just watched the excellent piece of film-making and storytelling that is "Control" the first thing I would like to get my hands on is a well-presented and expertly-compiled DVD showing all the band's filmed performances. It's a shame that this doesn't appear to be it. The aformentioned Something Else clip is undoubtedly one of the most mesmerising pieces of rock footage in history, along with The Who on Shindig, The Rolling Stones promo for Jumping Jack Flash or Bowie doing "Starman" on TOTP.

I hope someone treats their filmic legacy properly, and soon!

A Missed Opportunity
I'm a month shy of my 47th birthday and have been a huge Joy Division fan ever since I belatedly discovered them back in 1979, just after "Unknown Pleasures" was released. I bought this DVD a couple of days ago and only got around to watching it earlier tonight. Whilst the insight provided by the likes of Middles, Robb et al is interesting at best I nonetheless feel that a great opportunity has somehow been missed. This DVD feels to me as if it's been thrown together too quickly ahead of the forthcoming "Control" film due for release in September.

As with an earlier reviewer, I agree that that the absence of interviews with Wilson, Hook, Sumner and Morris detract from what could have been a much more comprehensive, caring and involved appraisal of the greatest and most influential band to come out of the post-punk era. If you're new to Joy Division, this is at best an adequate introduction, but if you're a full-on diehard fan then maybe you're best advised to keep your hand away from your wallet and enjoy the albums and/or box-set instead.

Not brilliant but not bad
Ok, not brilliant but not bad - worth renting but not buying i think (as i did). I am a massive JD fan having seen them twice in 1980 and thought this film gave a good insight for people who may not know a lot about the band. cant stand the 24 hour party people clips and was a shame they didnt talk about the single Ceremony.
Definately worth a look
