Editorial reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Tiger Woods returns and in better form than his recent Ryder Cup letdown, with a whole host of refinements and additions (and the odd subtraction) to the winning PGA Tour formula.

The lowdown:
The problem with updating a golf game every year is that, unlike most other sports, nothing much changes in terms of players or courses. Despite that, this update tries its best with new courses, new golfers, an expanded online mode and an even better create-a-golfer mode. The only downside to all this is that the main "Rivals" single player mode from last year’s game has gone, replaced with the inferior "Team Tour" mode. It doesn’t affect the selection of other modes though, including new options "Elimination" and "OneBall" and the four player "Bloodsome and Greensome". It may not reinvent the wheel but it does at least add some very welcome decoration to it - and thankfully not in the style of most golf clothing.

Most exciting moment:
The best bit about PGA Tour is still its simple and accessible controls. There are two main controls, the first uses the left analogue stick to swing and set the power and the right aims where you hit the ball. The alternative control places the hook and slice on the right stick, if that’s how you prefer it.

Since you ask:
The Xbox 360 version of the game became infamous as the first game to allow you to unlock the extra features by paying money via micro-transactions on Xbox Live Marketplace. You can, however, still unlock them the honest way on all the different versions.

The bottom line:
A minor update to the world’s favourite golf game. -HARRISON DENT

Pretty Much Perfect!
A flippin fine game! The graphics and animation are superb, the sounds great, there's loads to unlock, it's challenging but very playable. I love the animation when you catch a ball perfectly, very nice little addition! The analogue nub works great, infact because it slides, and doesn't tilt like the console controlers, this you may even get a better feel?! The load times are quick (a problem with the early games) and I think the control is very good.

If you look around for reviews, you get some complaining about the fact that a slice/hook makes a bid difference in where you end up! Well, in real life it does make a difference, and people slating the putting. To me the putting is the same as I've played on the PC. You see the roll/tilt of the green using the grid, adjust how hard to hit the ball using the up/down on the d pad, and hit away. I don't know how it's been done on the consoles before, but I haven't had a problem with this version at all.

It's a great game, looks superb, and plays great. Ignore people complaining about controls, there's nothing wrong with them at all. A bit of practice, get your stats up, and you'll be beating Tiger before you know it! Buy and enjoy! :D

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007
I bought Tiger Woods PGA Tour about two weeks ago, and it's been a great game so far. All in all, it's a really impressive game and it'll not get boring at all!

Graphics - The game's graphics are excellent for the PSP, the players (including you own custom player) are represented in amazing detail, the GameFace facility is really used well for the PSP system, the graphics of the courses are also spectacular for the system, and there is nothing about the graphics which are noticably bad. A great visual representation throughout. 10/10.

Gameplay - The 'FedEx Cup' is the new major tournament in the PGA Tour Career mode which you shall try to enter, plus mid-week challenges to keep your game up where you need it most. It has been used very well, the mid-week practice sessions being extremely helpful toward gaining vital skill points. The game maybe a bit quick on allowing you to obtain skill points, as I have only completed half of one year (out of the 3 year calendar) and most of my skills are half-full (plus bonuses from attire), and I'm already rank 1st in the PGA Tour. Nevertheless, the calendar is done very well, plus with Sponsorships, and a vast array of equipment and clothing. Mini-Games are also a fun side-track to the usual golfing experience. 9/10

Controls - Not much to say other than the use of analogue is put to very good use (although somewhat tedious at times), and the boost (spin) button too. It does offer a more realistic approach to the game, plus with it's tense moments too. The controls are excellent, and you can't ask for more. 10/10

Sound - The sounds effects within the game are very good. When you strike the ball with the 9 degree driver, it makes a very authentic sound, very realistic. The crowd noises and applausing is good, apart from the fact there are no crowds on the courses, but it doesn't really make much difference. The music EA have put onto this game, in mind mind, is horrific. I think the music is of poor quality compared to other games like FIFA 07, however, you can play .mp3 files that are on your Memory Stick on the game, so there is a way around the bad music. 9/10

Overall - A very fun game, which can be played by anyone, even those who aren't familiar with the world of golf. A very appealing game with a very long playtime. It'll be hard to get bored of this game. 10/10.

Gooooood Job!
What can I say but well doen. EA sports have made another golfing gem. Graphics are fantastic and the game play is as good as ever apart from the new putting system which is tricky and can get fustrating when you first start out. But putting (no pun intended) that to one side, the game is throughly enjoyable and is addictive as many of you might imagine. The career-type/tour mode is very good and again gives you a chance to make your game-face player the best in the business. and with hundreads of equipment and attire options you can customize your player to look as you wish.

The mini games are good too with putting frenzy and the shooting gallery. My advice to you would be practice the putting frenzy so before you go into the tour/career mode. You'll be well prepared then. lol.

Top of the Woods
Fantastic, the game is greatly improved from 06. Graphics much better and the game has more to unlock on it. Endless gameplay. *****
