Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review:In a nutshell: Gran Turismo might market itself as the "real driving simulator" but compared to the attention to detail and level of simulation in GTR 2 it might as well be Mario Kart when it comes to realism.
The lowdown:
Since it’s focused purely on GT racing there are no road races to compete on, but you do get 34 real word tracks and 140 different cars in three different classes. Although it is an unapologetically hardcore simulation the game does make a big effort to be as accessible as possible with a suite of driving aids and an in-depth driving school to help teach you not to use them. All this computerised help is in support of fully customisable races that let you change every variable from race length to time of day. The game also features some stunningly realistic looking graphics and an excellent online mode, with up to twenty-eight players competing at the same time. In short it’s petrolhead heaven.
Most exciting moment:
As impressive as the graphics, physics and other simulation aspects are, what really makes the races exciting is the fact that the artificial intelligence for all your opponents react like real human beings, not the dull automatons of Gran Turimso.
Since you ask:
Swedish developer SimBin, who also did GT Legends on the PC, have just been signed up to create new game Race for Eidos Interactive, which will use the official license for the world touring car championship.
The bottom line:
Probably the most realistic racing simulator ever made. -HARRISON DENT

Essential racing simI have owned both GTR2 and rFactor since I bought my Logitech Momo wheel, and I can say categorically GTR2 is superior in every conceivable way with the possible exception of mods.
I have chosen to mention rfactor because it has swamped the PC driving sim community, and undeservedly so when placed next to GTR2.
What makes GTR2 so good? For me it's 3 things.
Firstly, driver AI, particularly when it comes to defending position. In other games, such as TOCA 3 and rfactor, the AI follows the racing line. In GTR2 they don't - they will block the inside of a corner, but you can always get them with a switchback on the exit. They might let you have the inside, then as you run wide on the exit they reclaim the place. I am involved in motorsport and these are the sort of real moves that happen in real racing. Too many people watch BTCC and think that banging door handles is the only way to overtake.
Secondly, realistic car handling, and particularly the way the force feedback actually tells you what the front tyres are doing. Even just crawling down the pitlane, put on full lock and you can feel the moment the tyres break their grip and the car enters understeer. On the approach to a fast corner, the same sensation is a vital part of balancing the brakes and steering. No other game, not even its much hyped successor GTR Evolution, has force feedback like this. It's like a real car, but maybe since power steering was invented we've all forgotten what real car steering feels like.
Related to this is the physics model, so advanced it can output MoTeC data files and you can actually use the MoTeC software to analyse the car's behaviour. Fine tuning suspension settings and ride height was maybe not meant to be this complicated, but a bit of time and effort does yield results.
Thirdly, the graphics engine is excellent, combining very good graphics with high frame rates. Lens flare in low sunlight, reflections shimmering off a wet track, and highly detailed cars contribute to making it look good as well as feel good.
If I have a complaint it is that many of the custom championships are locked and need to be unlocked by completing "driver school" challenges. Eventually these become tediously difficult and leave me resentful of the fact I've paid for this game but can't access all of it.
Mods don't seem to work very well at all, and I have yet to find any that come close to the standard of the FIA GT championship that the game is based around. Amusingly, someone converted all the cars to a mod for rFactor, and playing the rFactor mod only serves to highlight the superiority of GTR2.
I have played the demo of GTR Evolution and it seems very disappointing, a step away from realism and towards an arcade game. If you have a more modest PC, you love real racing, and you are prepared to spend a bit of time learning to control the cars - buy GTR2 and you won't be disappointed.

bought from 727 GameBought GTR2 from this company, i found them thru google and they had a .co.uk address, when the game arrived it was a thailand game only, shipped from Thailand, all the writing on the box is Thai, all the instructions are Thai, they will not refund either unless the game is faulty....GAMERS BEWARE!!!!

Not for the arcade racerI have read reviews of quite a lot of people saying that this is a difficult game and that it is too "real". Well, don't get this game if your planning on drifting round corners, or drag racing, this is what it says on the tin basically, it is a simulation racing game.
GAMEPLAY:
I do not normally like racing games, especially ones such as this, but my friend convinced me to get it so i could go online with him. The online play is great, there is no lag whatsoever, although that is determined on your internet speed as well. The single player mode can get quite boring, so i almost always opt for the onlnie mode as it is a much more unique experience. There are a number of cars and tracks which will satisfy for a lnog time as well. There's loads of features with the game as well. There arew so many customisable options that you can use wth your car (not affecting appearance such as NFS), the engine and car physics are totally customisable.
GRAPHICS and AUDIO:
This game has great visuals, but whats great is you don't need an amazing system to play it either. I'm running it on top spec with 2GB RAM, 3.4 GHz processor and an 8600 GT graphics card. There's no ghosting either or any other downsides. As for the audio, the car sounds are quite good, i'd give them a 7/10, which would be my score for the overall audio as the music does get quite annoying, but is easy to turn off.
OVERALL:
Overall, i would give this game a 7/10, and warn you, if your looking for an equal to Need for Speed or Outrun, then this isn't the game for you, if your looking for a racing simulation then this most probably is.Online play is what gives the game it's life, as normal play gets boring after a while. There are also loads of mods you can get off of the internet for the game too, to give it a new lease of life.

Poor -Extremely DifficultI bought this game in search to an alternative to NFS. I have a reasonable price wheel £30 trust and i thought that screenshots and revewis all looked good. Bought the game easy to innstall but once on it was terriable. I manged just one track my wheel was told to be sterring dramatically left and on throttle. I now am £12 out of pocket and still looking for a new game. Please don't buy although u may think your good at these simulatours i promise you this proves your not!!!!

Not great....Lacking in the ingredients that hooked me to Gran Turismo, that is, easy to get into and rewarding to play. Even the easiest races seem much to hard, one error and your race is over. Leaving the track seems to involve losing massive amounts of time. This game is probably very good from a simulator point of view and very realistic, but totally dull if you want something fun you can just pick up for an hour.
