Editorial reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review:In a nutshell: The third Guild Wars campaign is the most sociable of all, in terms of other meeting other people in the massively multiplayer online world and getting help from new virtual heroes.
The lowdown:
Dubbed the world’s first co-operative online role-playing game (or competitive, depending on your temperament), Guild Wars manages to distinguish itself from the crowd by moving the focus away from constantly levelling up and focusing it squarely on combat between and against players. This third game in the series is set on the new continent of Elona and features two new classes of character to play as: the long range Paragon and the magical Dervish. Twenty new missions and hundreds of quests are included, in what is more than just an expansion pack even if it’s not quite a new game.
Most exciting moment:
The best new element of the game is certainly the new hero characters who you can recruit to join your cause. Unlike the previous nondescript henchmen these are fully customisable in terms of skills and equipment and you can even set them fighting against each other, in special hero vs. hero areas of the game.
Since you ask:
Guild Wars is one of the very few commercially available massively multiplayer online role-playing games not to require a monthly subscription fee. Instead, after you’ve bought the game itself, it’s free to play and publisher NCsoft gets its additional revenues through advertising instead.
The bottom line:
A welcome evolution of one of the most unique online games around.-HARRISON DENT

Brilliant!!I have tried game after game after game to try and find one that I could actually get along with. Many other games, both MMORPG and FPS, bored me so much after a while and I would stop playing. Then I would get bored not playing anything. It was my boyfriend that suggested getting this game. He wanted to try it so I thought that I would give it a whirl as well. I had heard many good things about the entire Guild Wars collection and know a lot of people who already play it.
I have really enjoyed this game so far, the guild interaction is brilliant. I know that I can ask anyone in the guild to help me if I need it.
I would recommend this game highly to anyone that wanted a bit of a change but also to people who are new to MMORPG games as it is quite easy to pick up, it is obvious as to where to go next and who to talk to.

world of what?this game is one of the best mmo (CORP precisely) out there, this doesn use the normal exploits of other mmos such as payin monthly, these set of missions is the middle on in terms of length (the longest being the orignal guild wars [prophercies] and hte shortest being factions]) but by no means is it any easier...i spend days on a mission with different parties mainly cos it was hard in parts, and unlike any other mmos it isnt about time spent on the game its more about skill, this is done by havin a low lvl cap (lvl 20 max) and only allowin 8 skills to take with you from a whole host of skills from your primary profession and your secondary (think of it as being a soldier as a healer at the same time...thats what im kinda sayin.) and dont think just because there is a low level cap that, thats all there is cos the mission will get harder as you go on, and yes you have the aid of better AI heroes, but they will get harder and make you think of how to tackle certain enemies, rather than rushin head first into them.
This game has a massive replayablity, with you being able to choose from 8 professions (the scythe wielding dervish [and lemme tell you they look COOL] and the javelin throwin paragon [which acts like a long distance warrior] are the new professions), the fact that even though it doesnt have fee the people at A-net still treats this game with constant updates (not too constant taht you find youself downloading them evry wednesday) and it has special even 3 times per month which could be extra faction points in pvp, better drop, more xp (though its not that big a deal) etc... though this game is release pre-WoW it still packs a massive punch.
This game should be bought by:
1) rpg fans with an internet connection
2) any one who owns the previous guild wars
3) someone who is quitting a larger mmo (i wont say which but i think you all know what it is)
4) someone who like to pvp
5) anyone who wants to get into the mmorpg scene
6) anyone who like the FF series (trust me you can do the whole campaign as single player and its definatly like FF minus the gravity defying hair and wierd weapons)

This game is AWESOME!I already own Guild Wars Prophecies, and thought i would buy Nightfall. So i searched the web and found Guild Wars Nightfall for cheap.
But then i saw Guild Wars Nightfall Collectors Edition and said to my self: thats the same price as the normal edition, ill get it! So then i ordered with free save super delivery, or wateva it is, and it was despatched the day after and was delivered in 4 days. I opened the box and there it was: the art book, the manuscripts A.K.A. the manual(which has suprisingly lots and lots of pages),the game activation card, extra code things to put in, the fold out statue thing(which is very hard to work out how you actually make it stand up),a quick reference book, the 2 pins with skills on, and finally, the 3 discs, which are: the game, the soundtrack, and the "making of"disc.
All the things in the box are very well presented and all of it is very high standard, apart from the 2 books which look quite cheap on the outside, but once youve seen inside them there not cheap anymore. =P
Now fot the game, you start off with "Koss" ,your first hero, and either do the tutorial, which i reccommend for new players, or dont and go straight to the outpost where you start your first mission. After this, well, ill let you find that out for yourselves. The main thing in this game that is new is the 2 new professions and the heroes. The new 2 professions are:
Dervish: Serving the gods as holy warriors, Dervishes stand confidently in the whirlwind of conflict. Martial techniques perfected in the deserts of Elona allow a Dervish's scythe to lash out quickly at multiple opponents, surrounding the holy warrior with a swath of destruction. Initiates often learn spells of self-protection, prayers that rush a warrior into battle, and invocations that empower attacks with elemental fury. Masters of the profession can assume the form of a god, enacting divine will with holy blessings. Keenly aware of the conditions of a fight, a Dervish can reap great benefits by using multiple Enchantments. Wandering the savannahs and deserts of Elona, the faithful Dervish chants prayers to the earth and wind... and the fury of the sandstorm answers in response.
Paragon: Paragons are the guardian angels of Elona, humanity's champions against malefic threats. They rally the valiant with Shouts and Chants, aiding heroes, henchmen, and other adventurers through inspiration and motivation. A Paragon's best weapons rely on an insightful mind, a courageous spirit, and a charismatic voice. Many Paragons also arm themselves with a spear and shield, striking from a distance as they shout their battle cries. Through insight, they help others resist Hexes and Conditions, echoing their commands across the field of battle (in fact, some "Echo" abilities renew themselves each time a Chant or Shout ends). When all hell breaks loose, a commanding Paragon shines as a beacon of light, driving back the forces of darkness.
The new heroes thing means that you have henchman, but you can customise what weapons they have and the skills they use, which is ment to help people who want to do the game alone.
Well, thats all folks!!!

Exquisitely presented and not half bad....As an MMO newbie (or, to go back a generation, a MMPORPG virgin), the purchase of Nightfall was clearly going to shape my view, in a fairly fundamental fashion, on whether playing against a bunch of humans, and all the wierdness that entails, is really worth the effort. Surely I couldn't have resisted the hype of World of Warcraft? Well, if it hadn't been for the fee, I wouldn't have (just being honest) - yep, it was a quick scan of reviews on the web, and then a no-brainer for me as there are absolutely zilch monthly fees with this game.
So, is it a game or yet another wanderaboutathon staring at inanimate avatars and immobile 'in stasis' players until finally, through the gloom of despair, you finally get asked to join a party, or, for the more go-getter amongst us, you finally get a response to your 150th attempt and broadcasting yourself as 'ready to whoop some harpy's backside'? (breathe) Actually, if I had to sum up my past three weeks episodes on Nightfall, Collector's Edition, I would have to say that it's been 'pleasant'. I don't mean that in a demeaning way at all - I've met loads of people. I've spent the odd half hour telling (appalling) jokes to everyone at the Jokanna Diggings - and I'd have to say that well over half my jaunts into the wilderness have been with 2 or more human counterparts. With the exception of one (you know who you are - curse you) none of them were the sit-back-and-let-you-die type.
The storage system works well - and the trading is pretty well continuous. If you "got the plats" you can get pick up the rarest and most sought-after items in no time. You also feel that your efforts are worth it - to continously slaughter the same old wee beasties time after time will net you (eventually) zero experience, but on pushing back the boundaries a bit, you get a nice reverse exponential curve of reward against a fairly steady rise in character advancement.
Some of the views are stunning - and this thing runs well on my system - a LAPTOP!!! Shock! Horror! 1 gb of ram, and an AMD Sempron 1.8 equivalent, and a (let me check....) ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 gcard is more than machine enough for the job. So, graphics good - animations good - what else.
Character interaction is unobtrusive - if you want to play a truly solo game - you can (although, trust me, you're missing out). You simply wander into an encampment, hire up some heavies and set off without a word to anyone. If you want to join a party, just advertise yourself - you'll either get in or you wont (and you normally do after a few minutes perseverance).
So, this brings me to the crux of it: Guild wars is, and always has been, a two-faceted affair - missions or player versus player (pVp). You can 'only' reach level 20 (although you can still improve yourself thereafter, just not in a numerical sense), and when you finally reach the twenty mark - you can set off into pVp land. If you're not up to that level of time investment (several hours/days/weeks depending on how much spare time you've got) - you can start out at level 20 straight away and join the warring factions. I would encourage anyone to plow through the 'single' player side though; team up with a few people on missions, work up the ranks together, and join forces against the (cue orchestral music) warrior foes that think they're better than you.
It's good - and it will take up your hours, but you'll also find that, after the honeymoon period, you find yourself not playing for a few days or more. Fret not, it pulls you back in eventually, and then you're back in the swing of it - saving up for a gold bow of (insert magic-related description here) or simply to take on that grub lance that you've always had an issue with....
Downsides...well, it isn't perfect - there's a lag on startup (but soon settles down) and to begin with, you really don't get much of a clue on how best to get going (even though the Collector's edition documentation is stunning - it really doesn't present the information up front, to the newbie, as it should. Trust me, I do just that for a living). Some of the missions can seem a tad samey - and until you get used to checking your quests, and making sure you select them, the guiding star on the compass can be confusing (but once you understand it, it's a godsend).
It's not a bad community either - there's never a shortage of guildmasters looking for new recruits (I joined one on my second day) and, although it sometimes feels that joining a guild isn't up to much other than getting a fancy identifying cape - when you work out how to "guild v guild" it's terrific fun.
World of Warcraft beater - no idea, haven't played it. Not likely to for a while either.

Nightfall HeroesI have all 3 games this one being the last one I bought, was going to buy the normal version till found collectors ed on here for same price!! Saving between £30 and £45 bargin!! Nightfall is great as it allows you to have heroes which you can customise and micro control if you wish. This is way better than the regular henchmen as you can give them any skills you have for that profession as well as pets.I generally find that pets can be helpfull and get comments on my "Zoo". All the extras with Nightfall coll ed are useful especially the map, minipet cool as well. Nightfall is my second favorite as Proph is always going to be fave. If you have the other campaigns then once you have unlocked travel they can help you in those worlds. That comes in very useful and in a lot of cases means you don't have to rely on others!!. Worth buying just for the heroes plus is a good game on its own. If thinking of choosing between Factions/Nightfall go with Nightfall!!
