turtle beach x1 headset - not for the PC.Turtle Beach Ear Force X1 Headset (Xbox 360)
I mainly bought this headset as i wanted to use them on my xbox360 console. Previously i was mostly wearing a headset to keep noise down to a minimum in games when in the same room as relatives. to use the Live game chat server I would have to wear the single ear MS headset on one ear underneath my normal headset. I searched high and low for a product that would allow me to combine voice and xbox360 game sounds, having found the X1 i bought it straight away without trial.
The PRO's:
Nothing is close to it for use on the Xbox360.
Sound is very loud, yes i do find myself shouting more often when playing on LIVE.
Adjustable chat levels allow you to turn up the chat volume and hear even the quietest of people talking.
Compfy even for long gaming sessions (ive worn them for most of a day)
Long cables
The CONS:
Too loud (bass is amplified)
Often turning the volume right down.
Not for PC gaming. (see below and i will explain in details)
expensive.
needs USB to power them. if u use a wireless gaming pad, you still need to trail a USB cable and sound connection cable to the console.
background hiss can be heard at most volume levels
chat sounds very bass and boomish
PC probs.
My main headset broke, so i tried out my x1's on my PC using the standard i/o's for microphone and sounds. Lots of hissing can be heard from ingame sounds (in particular playing World of Warcraft). when using the headset with a Voice over IP chatting program (teamspeak i was notified by other users that even when the X1 was muted by the physical mute switch my microphone remained open (much to their annoyance). Secondly not only did my voice remain on but i was told that any ingame noise could be heard too. I was dissapointed with this and contacted the support team at turtle beach who felt it was a software issue with teamspeak rather than the x1. It still remains unresolved...
In summary, probably the best functional product of the console use, but stay clear for PC gaming.

A decent product for the priceI pretty much agree completely with L. Major on all accounts, all the major aspects are covered well and it's a good all around impression of what you get.
I definitely agree that this headset is not for those who don't like bass, I'm still getting used to the low end-heavy sound, but I do see where L. Major is coming from when saying that bass is not used unnecessarily. They're very light, comfortable, even on my big ol' ears, but be warned that long term gaming sessions with any full, padded headphones like this will leave your ears feeling more restricted than a standard headset.
The functionality is great though, the mic is highly adjustable and stays exactly where you want it to, the overall product is light yet feels solid and reassuring. Sound quality is not what you'd get from a dedicated pair of headphones for the same price, but it fills its niche well and provides a good price point considering all the Xbox 360 relevant functionality that you get.
If you're serious or semi-serious about competitive gaming then these are a great choice, the best around this price point in my opinion. The mix of functionality for decent sound and very useable chat is great for games that involve chatting and callouts, FPS games especially. But if you don't really need the mic and just want to hear the game sound in headphones instead of TV, then go for a similarly priced pair of standalone headphones with no mic. For around the same price you can get a good pair of headphones from Sennheiser that will yield better quality sound for game sound alone.

essential gaming equipment !Well what can i say. first of all delivery was pleasently quick big thanks to Amazon ordered on Friday morning and they turned up the following Monday hooked them up to my t.v and x-box straight away.Initial impressions were a bit bulky on the head at first (i looked like an air line pilot) but you soon forget this once you power these beauties up like a lot of reviewers of these head phones my first test subject was cod4.WOW! just try team death match with the M4 CARBINE its amazing i then played on the creek map hiding in the loft of a bombed out house with a sniper rifle you can hear every creek of the wood and the haunting whisle of the wind as you lie in wait. These are a MUST for f p s fans and set up took less than 3 minutes if your serious about your shooters buy these you wont regret it. once again big thanks to Amazon.

Beware. Not as good as they should be.I bought my X1s because I like to game at night but still have the volume loud.
First impressions were good. The actual headset is well made and the arm that holds the microphone is sturdy and can be posed in any position, or swivelled away from the face if you don't want to talk.
But I have the following problems with the X1.
1. They get uncomfortably hot after a while. The ear cups don't allow your ears to breath. I have other non-gaming headphones for music and they can be worn for hours in full comfort. I find my ears need a break before my eyes with the X1s.
2. The sound quality is poor, especially if you are using a wired controller, or are charging your wireless controller while playing. I found a constant hissing noise to be present if my controller was physically attached to my 360. Even when playing wirelessly the sound, while pleasantly bass-heavy for explosions and the like, loses many higher frequencies compared to dedicated music headphones.
3. Now this is the WORST problem. It is very, very easy to damage the X1s by accident. Because the cable that comes with it is so long, other people or yourself can easily accidentally trip or catch it. A common problem is to unknowingly sit on the cable and then try stand up. If this happens, there is no safety mechanism to detach the cord - it will either pull the headphones off your head, out of the headphone socket on your TV or hi-fi or permanantly damage the headset. My Sony music headphones with a similar length cord detach below the ear should you accidentally snag the cord, saving damage to the headset.
I don't feel I can recommend the X1s. Buy if you have no other choice, but beware.

Nice!Ended up getting these for £35 at Game web site. Anyhow they are easy to set up , very very comfortable and do what they say on the box. The sound quality is fine ( not amazing but fine ) and the mic works well , altho you cant hear yourself speak sometimes as both your ears are covered. All in all a worthy purchase. COD4 here I come!
