Manufacturer's Description
As millions of our happy customers worldwide will testify, O&O has over the years gained considerable expertise in moving files during defragmentation. By using this experience, O&O has now developed a product that enables you to image and restore your entire hard disk. O&O DiskImage supports all important functions and combines this with a user friendly interface for the quick and simple imaging or restoration of data. O&O DiskImage can perform either an incremental imaging or just as easily image an entire system. The imaged data can then be encrypted and also compressed to various different levels. The splitting of images onto different storage volumes can either be individually set or O&O DiskImage will automate the splitting.

Should only particular files or directories from an image be required, it is not necessary to restore the whole image. Images can be mounted as drives with O&O DiskImage enabling direct access to individual files or directories. Just like with O&O BlueCon V6 or the O&O RescueBox V4, O&O DiskImage comes delivered on a start capable CD based on Windows PE with full Windows driver support, enabling the complete recovery of a system image without prior installation. Users of O&O DiskImage therefore have the so-called BareMetal technology at their disposal, without the need to first create a Start medium. The creation or restoration of an image is significantly accelerated by the native support of 64-bit and multiprocessor systems.

    Rubbish
Having read some of the more shocking accounts of users experiences with both Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image, I thought I would plump for a relative outsider. What a mistake. This software does not allow bootable media to be created, instead relying on a certain Windows PE CD to boot the computer, this takes ages. If you are using a laptop, you only have the one optical drive available, which has the Windows PE disc in, so removeable media is out of the question anyway. Similarly, this would not access my external USB2 hard drive to read an image file off there either. In short, it will only work over a network (I presume, since I haven't tested this). This software cannot restore an image to the system drive, which I would have thought to be an essential feature! If you want to back up another drive, you can achieve the same result by simply sticking everything in a zip file, it would probably be smaller than the extremely poor compression options offered by O&O. This software gets one star because the interface looks pretty, but it does not do half of what one would expect at this price. Avoid.
Incidentally, I then bought a copy of Norton Ghost 9 (2003) from the Amazon marketplace sellers, which does create bootable media. Unfortunately having "successfully" completed the back-up process, I decided to test its restore function, at 26% of the way through, it ejected the DVD and asked politely for disc 2, which definately does not exist. Had to reformat it in the end.
