'Extreme' Craputter rubbish despite being an expensive board boasting a dual sli chip set, nForce680i, LED's, even an alarm clock this board is miserable, seeemed highly unstable most of the time, the ethernet port never seemed to function propperly.
and to top it off the thing died less than 6 months after i bought it. if you want a 'brandname' gaming mother board try one of those ABIT Fatal1ty boards, or if you have loads of cash the new XFX motherboard, or even another ASUS board, just not this one!

Worst ASUS board ive every purchasedIve been through a lot of ASUS boards, probably about 15 in total, always been totally happy with their top end boards until i was done by the nvidia marketing machine. After reading the reviews on here, i can confirm that i experienced all the same problems listed above and trust me, im no noob at overclocking. Just getting the board to post at stock speeds was problematic, want to use 4 dimms? forget it unless u underclock the ram, want to use corsair or other SLI ready EPP ram? forget it, this board is a complete shambles that exhibits bizarre, illogical behavior. After making one change, board doesnt post, logic says if u undo the one change, board should post again... does it hell. SPent weeks trying to get stability even at stock speeds, then to even get it to post at underclock speeds. For the first time in my life as an ASUS customer, i had to contact their support.. this is where i found the next problem... Reseller is responsible for warranty, they didnt respond for 7 weeks and ignored me. I eventually complained to ASUS US because ASUS support in china also went quiet for over a month, they promised to RMA the board with their UK office that handles their other computer products, got an email from them, responded with the details they requested... several months on... nothing.. utterly appalling. this is so a trading standards job.. board does not meet claimed specification and is not fit for purpose.
despite their lack of customer care, they make great motherboards (except nvidia chipsets) - stupidly i replaced with ASUS board with Intel X38 chipset, in complete contrast, this board does not have compatibility issues, runs all my 4 dimms at rated speed, doesnt give me BSOD's, doesnt fail to post, has more Overclocking headroom and is immensely faster..
so i had to lose an 8800 ultra and revert back to one, but im better off with a pc that works. i got the board in the beginning of november 07, i still havent had the rma replacement, just silence from ASUS.
Im past the point of caring now and the board is going to be smashed up with a hammer, with video footage taken and i will post it on youtube. For those of you that had the same ordeal as i did, you will find it particularly satisfying im sure.
Do yourself a favour and stick to a board that has a chipset designed by a motherboard chipset manufacturer.. X38 or X48 should be top of your list. If you buy ASUS (IMO they are the best) then make sure you buy from an excellent reseller that has good warranty/returns programme, or u might end up posting on youtube too
Avoid nvidia boards

Avoid at all costsOnly gets 2 stars, because it is great, when it isn't giving CPU Init. I wish I'd read the reviews and found out about this before I bought it. On my 2nd board after the first one continually gave the error, I managed to 'fix' it twice. Third time it was a brick.
I will be staying clear of the 680 chipset and Asus.
BIOS update hit or a miss, and whatever you do get low power cheap memory to set the memory voltage, don't use auto.

dont buy itAsus have created a great looking motherboard, but you might want to look up "Striker extremem CPU INIT" first in search engine, before you buy this. It came, i was so excited, hooked it all up, and my smile soon turned around. And it seems like most of the world have the same problem with this board as me. If i was amazon i would take it off the list. I still have not got it to work, and i build computers for a living!
