what the ?Japans dir en grey were something of an enigma to me until recently,i had heard of them, saw what they looked like in magazines, heard that they were part of the J-rock movement and assumed they werent metal enough for me and left it there.I,took a gamble on this album though,i found it really cheap in a shop, less than three quid in price and thought what the heck,i put it on and after the misleading opening track, which is almost a soothing ballad,my mouth hit the flipping floor, this was nasty stuff, capable of face melting and violent spasms almost, the band sound a bit nu metal in parts and slipknot like at others with the odd softer moment thrown in but in terms of gut wrenching screams from the bowls of agony and hell itself then this album will deliver, the singer is called kyo and he has some lungs on him,he shrieks and wails like the very best of them and the music is off kilter yet catchy as a frisbee.
br /This album is really good,i appreciate that this album is deemed their heavy album, and they werent always this way but there is something invigorating about this,it sounds modern yet not and violent yet comforting,i was wrong about this band on many fronts, this is worth a listen and then some.

MOTBThis is dir en grey's album from 2007, adapting a more aggressive nature than their previous 2005 - 2006 album 'withering to death'.
br /if you dislike songs such as agitated screams of maggots or clever sleazoid, this isnt their album for you.
br /As a hardcore diru fan, i wouldn't state this as dir en grey at their 'best', but its certainly something for fan's with taste's of hard-metal and aggressive vocal's.
br /
br /Kyo's vocals are at their best as always. Guitarist's Kaoru, die and bassist toshiya emphasize Hard metal in this album, whilst shinya's drums keep it stable.
br /
br /Some of my favorite track's from MOTB are Ryoujoku no ame, The fatal believer, and Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tomadoi Ni Hohoemi ( a beautiful heart breaking ballad ).
br /
br /4/5, thank you.

One Of Dir en grey's BestA lot of people have talked about this as being Dir en grey's best album to date, and i have to agree.
br /
br /Don't listen to 'C. Simmonite "Daisuke Ando"' there are two types of Dir en grey fans, people who like them and people who like the old 'visual kei' Dir en grey, people like this guy give Dir en grey a bad name to the west because they are too hung up on how they have 'changed' over the years. I like both new and old Dir en grey their music has surely improved over time.
br /
br /This is definitly Dir en grey's most western album yet, I would recommend this to any american/british metal fan, it's a great album to get started on the dir en grey train and gives you a taste of how many styles dir en grey have. It's definetly a good idea (if your from the west) to start with this album and work your way back to dir en grey's softer more 'message' orientated works when your done loving this album move back to the vulgar album to get a taste of old Dir en grey and then if your not sure go for Withering To Death to see what they can really do.

A low point for Dir en greyI have been a Dir en grey fan for many years now and across the internet there is alot of talk how 'MARROW OF A BONE' is Dir en grey's best work to date. I couldnt disagree more. In all honesty i think that this album was a huge dissapointment. They have taken a darker and heavier toner in their music and coming from Dir en grey it just doesnt sound right. Their best album by far is their first album 'GAUZE'. But dont worry this album isnt ALL bad, there are 1 or 2 relatively decent songs and they are - (in my opinion) 'CLEVER SLEAZOID' and 'GRIEF'. Other than them 2 tracks the rest of the album just isnt the Dir en grey i know and love.
br /Its just a shame that Dir en grey's sucess in the UK was built upon from this album. Because of that, everyone knows of them as a metal band whereas they are far from that.

A must own for all J rock fansI bought this album when it was released in Japan, as I have been a big fan of Dir en grey for over a year now, and I am not disappointed.
br /When you first play the album the first thing you notice is how heavy it is, but yet somehow the emotion you would normally get from them has been tripled. Kyo's already great voice seems to have improved, even since the last album, this is especially noticeable on the extra accoustic disk, which has three of my personnal favourite songs on it Conceived Sorrow; Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi; and The Pledge.
br /Whether you speak Japanese or not is unimportant, you will fall in love with this album more and more each time you listen, The meaning/ feeling comes across incredibly well.
br /All in all this is an emotional rollercoaster of an album, which is a must own for all lovers of the slightly heavier side of rock music.
