Not the full series!
Note for anyone who saw the series on Animal Planet and thought "I'd like to own that"... This DVD is actually a 'Specially created episode from the TV series', and runs at 65mins. Sure, it's an enjoyable watch, but it wasn't what I was expecting.

A Penguin Safari
Penguins have been enjoying a rise in popularity over the past year or two, thanks to two majestic films of Penguin life (one of which, as I'm sure you know, was an animated feature film) and now Nigel Marven, who has done this epic journey of penguin discovery. br / br /Nigel Marven is one of the most enjoyable nature presenters I have seen for a long time, taking a slightly less informative approach to wildlife than the likes of David Attenborough. However, in my mind this is an advantage, as you can feel that he connects with the penguins and other animal far more effectively using this approach. So much so that he even gives the penguins names. br / br /My only fault I can find with the documentary is that there are no Emperor Penguins. These being my favourite animals meant I was a little disappointed to find that they were not in the series, but this is a minor setback, plus King Penguins are still included which are very similar to the Emperor Penguin species. br / br /Like all good documentaries, Penguin Safari will make you laugh and it will certainly make you cry (I am referring to a heartbreaking scene which I cannot bear to watch again). One major point I must make is that the DVD does not only include penguins, but there is a broad amount of other wildlife included, such as Whales, Walruses and Seals. This does not detract from the documentary in the slightest, and if you were looking for a documentary just about Penguins, don't worry, as I'd say, about 70% of the documentary is Penguin related. br / br /As the documentary is filmed over a period of 40 days, it is possible to see how much Antarctica changes and developes in that short period of time. Nigel's lively and creative style of presenting makes for an exciting and informal coverage of the wildlife of Antarctica, and one can really see how the bond between him and the Penguins he meets, grows. br / br /So, in conclusion, Penguin Safari may not have the scale of something like Life in the Freezer, but it has a rare ability to charm and inform anyone willing to watch it.
