close to perfectA really superb collection of material that lets the music and the performances do the talking without being interrupted by interviews. The talking happens in between full-length clips. And you also have the option of playing just the footage. Brilliant picture quality. If you're a Buckley fan this is everything you could wish for - and a little more.

Made with loving care (and fully justified given the talent on show)Collecting together all known film recordings of Tim Buckley over the 7 years from 1967 on the Monkees show (an excellent acoustic version of "Song to the Siren") through to 1974 on the Old Grey Whistle Test (backed by members of Family, performing a very heartfelt version of Fred Neil's "The Dolphins") just before his death the following year, this is a compilation which was clearly put together with a lot of love and devotion to the man's memory.

br /Choose to either just listen to the amazing variety of video performances alone or instead add the three interview commentaries before each song performance of his long serving guitarist (Lee Underwood); his lyricist (Larry Beckett)and his biographer(David Browne) and you get everything put beautifully into historical context.

br /The man may have been dead for over 30 years before this compilation was put together but this DVD shows very well what a unique but undervalued talent he was - the US answer to Nick Drake.

What I've been waiting forAt last, something worthy of displaying the talents of the late Mr Buckley! I've tried various video compilations over the years usually of dubious quality. This DVD is worth it alone for Larry Beckett Lee Underwood's commentary, but it's the quality of the footage that takes your breath away. If you're a fan you'll have seen most of the footage before, but they must've got access to original source tapes of early generation copies. Simply amazing to see such wonderful footage after all these years.

The Real DealI rarely feel the urge to put a review here, and usually it's to warn people that they may not like the item. Quite the opposite here - this is simply stunning. Most of the songs have been available on poor quality bootlegs - somehow the compilers of this DVD have got hold of high quality material. The interviews with Tim are a real find. The recent interviews with Underwood and Beckett are hugely informative. I'll stop before I get too boring - just buy it.

The actual 'Portrait of a Legend'Tim Buckley never sold a meaningful amount of records in his sadly brief life. He managed to record nine albums in that time, including, with 'Lorca' and 'Starsailor', two of the most 'difficult' listening experiences of all time. The world of the commercial didn't concern him, which no doubt infuriated his record companies and management alike. With him, it was all about making music, and following whatever creative impulses ruled him. This DVD rounds up just about all of the available TV footage from various sources around the Globe, and gives a tantalising glimpse into the man's life and times. The twenty minutes or so of footage from his 'Starsailor' era band are worth the price of admission alone, but factor in other footage from Dutch TV, his appearance on the last ever 'Monkees' show, and a couple of numbers from the BBC 2 60s arts show 'Late Night Line-Up', and you have a fine encapsulation of one of the most gifted, if woefully undersold, talents of all time. The interviews with Buckley's guitarist, Lee Underwood, lyricist Larry Beckett and biographer David Browne fill in much useful biographical detail. Buckley's son, Jeff, who died ten years ago, was perhaps the only artist whose talent approached his dad. His untimely death drew a line under the Buckley dynasty, and rock music is much impoverished as a result. This is an excellent DVD, though, and well worth your hard-earned.
