Product DescriptionDennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ian Holm, Emmy Rossum, Arjay Smith, Austin Nicholls Director: Roland Emmerich
Amazon.co.uk ReviewAnyone looking for any kind of realistic consideration of the problem of climate change is in completely the wrong place with IThe Day After Tomorrow/I. Employing scientific conventions and explanations that you could rightly describe as ‘ropey’, it nonetheless does manage to deliver an entertaining slice of science fiction, and some high concept blockbuster fun. P Directed by Roland Emmerich, whose previous examples of spectacle cinema include IIndependence Day/I and IGodzilla/I, IThe Day After Tomorrow/I sees a new ice age dawning on the Earth, and in double quick time too. Caught in the midst of it all are Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid, as a separated son and father, with the former in New York and the latter in Washington. Quaid’s climatologist sets off to find and rescue his offspring, across a desperate ice-laden wasteland replete with umpteen threats along the way. P Taken as a slice of easy blockbuster entertainment, it’s hard not to glean some enjoyment out of IThe Day After Tomorrow/I. You may sit there trying to work out why some things freeze and some things don’t, but you can’t help but marvel at the terrific special effects, and the breezy pace of it all. In high definition, as you’d hope and expect, it all looks even better, and gives a meaty workout for any 1080p-ready display. Just don’t take it all that seriously… --IJon Foster/I

Clear picture and sound, a bit low on extrasThe audio and video quality of this Blu-ray disc is excellent, DTS-HD sound, very crisp picture under 1080p.

br /The only downside of this disc are the extras - The DVD version has a nice set of extras and interviews, whereas the Blu-ray version has only an absolute minimum of extras. Regardless, this is a brilliant Blu-ray for this price.

blu-ray at its bestWatching this film on blu-ray shows you why it is worthwhile investing in a blu-ray system. The sound and the picture are absolutely stunning in every respect.

A little bit more boring than I rememberedIt's not the greatest plot ever conceived but it might be one of the best premises to justify so many gratuitous special effects and set-ups in a single film.
br /I could have done without the high school love story b-plot but then maybe the film is attempting to reach out to that demographic.
br /Once the (spectacular) disaster has occurred the kids are left simply blowing on their hands waiting in the New York library for Daddy to come and rescue them. The film felt a little divided at this point and you're left not caring about the kids really at all. There are some forgettable performances throughout the movie and clichés galore (not least the "I told you people not to go outside - but you wouldn't listen and you all died - ha ha" classic).
br /But hey, it's a popcorn movie. You'll love the special effects and they are nicely presented on the blu-ray transfer.
br /You might not want to revisit this film after you've seen it once. I certainly haven't.

Day After Tomorrow, Blu-Ray`The Day After Tomorrow' is one of those films that is hugely flawed, has dubious science and yet is extremely entertaining. Following what would happen in the face of rapid ice age this film follows one mans attempt to get his scientific research listened to by those in charge, as well as his sons fight for survival in storm stricken New York. The acting is pretty good, the direction is great, the special effects are very impressive and overall this makes for a top apocalyptic film with a modern theme. Whilst the themes of climate change are not to be ignored, the catastrophic nature of the scenario depicted wouldn't be as extreme or rapid and yet if you put this aside this makes for engrossing and entertaining viewing and is worth a watch.
