starts great...then it goes wrong hence this ramble
right this is a new review so itll probably be quite low in the list, therefore safe to assume you already know the main strengths and weaknesses of this game (playing as someone other than dante blah blah blah)
im only bothering to write this cos as a huge devil may cry fan i bought my 360 with this game a couple of weeks ago. i didnt feel that the reviews really smmed up how i felt about this game as a fan and so thought id better give the world my proverbial 2 cents to consider

first started playing and didnt mind being nero. doesnt have the cool dry wit of dante but whatever, he has some cool moves and they look like they hurt more than some of dantes which are mostly just showing off. the first 2 days i played through this i was in absolute awe. amazing graphics (remember 1st 360 game id played)crazy fights good bosses and dante becomes available half way through the game. what more could you possibly want?>

unfortunately the answer to this is something along the lines of "FOR CHRIST SAKE SOMETHING!!!!!!!" once you get dante you are litterally just playing the exact same game again backwards to the point where levels eleven to twenty are ridiculously easy compared to the first 10 (i did them all in one siting). everytime you fight a boss as dante you just pray its going to be something new. you only get something new once and even then fans of the original DMC may remember it as the last bosses penultimate form from that with slightly more adrenaline, so not really new at all. then you get to do neros final level which consists of fighting EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE GITS YET AGAIN. then you reach the final boss....SAME ONE AS LEVEL TEN. i could rant about my dissapointment in this game forever frankly but you get the point.


ive given it more than one star as before this horrible realisaton sets in fans the DMC series will love this. if only they hadnt run out of ideas half way through. the first half is very nice, the story is more of a story this time asswell instead of just demon arse kicking crossed with a basic sibling rivalry. although not quite as cheesy as i had been led to believe (good thing? bad thing? subject to opinion)
seems to me this could have been saved if they had given dante and nero an individual story each and maybe by completing those you unlock the next set of events where there stories combine. in that setting i coulda forgiven the game for making me fight the same bosses twice (still not 3 times though) so long as they made it worth your while with the finale but im just musing now.
luckily i got my console with gears of war and bioshock which kind of eased the pain (although i found they were both over to0 quickly but ill admit to being a bit of a nerd with my new toy)

Button Mashin' Good
After a mixed batch of previous efforts, varying from near perfect, blindingly difficult and downright ugly, anybody would have been forgiven for thinking that this game would either fail big time or only appeal to the hardcore gamer. Well I would have to say that neither of those statements are true... entirely.

DMC4 is at heart an arcade inspired action/slash em up game with nods to other games such as Resident Evil and Ninja Gaiden. You take the role as Nero and Dante (the latter of which DMC fans will be accustomed) and your job is to run through castles, crypts and other fiendishly halloween inspired locations. The only hitch is that situated in each of these beautifully crafted locales is a plethora of demon spawn and other unsightly creatures from the night. You name and it DMC has it, and will throw at you as hard as it possibly can. The joy of this game lies in the action, and being an action game I wouldnt expect anything less. The controls are responsive and the combos you can pull of feel fluid and make your eyes orgasm. The more you progress and the better you get the more points you will earn which in turn can buy you more moves and combinations to help you kick demon butt in an even more stylish manner.

This game has tons of replay value, with varying difficulty levels and achievements to obtain, but unfortunately this is also where the huge pitfall of the game lies. With so many reasons to play over and over again, I would have expected Capcom to have implemented a little more effort in varying the levels a little more. Back tracking is all well and good... but in the latter half of the game when you play as the original anti hero of the series you find yourself gunning through practically all the same areas as you did with nero. As unfortunate as this may be, it does little to harm the overall package. Beautiful visuals, smooth and fluid controls and positively oozing with style and pizzaz, this game should feed the hunger of any DMC fan and anybody else who wants a simple yet fun and inventive action game

Very Decent Game!
I only got Devil May Cry 4 because of my fond memories of the first one(the only one i played), the news that the 1st director returned for it, and the extremely cheap price. I'm also a sucker for games with hoodies in. However, it took a long time to get to grips with the controls, which is when it can be fully enjoyed. I'm the kind of guy who has to get used to a game and mabye complete it once before i can truly enjoy it. It definitely delivers there.

Some great Boss Battles

Cool Characters (Dante's always been a winner)

Amazing Graphics, I first purchased it when i had a standard definition
set, where its still better than PS2 or Xbox, but when i got A HDTV 42" Plasma, it really impressess.

Good Character Development system.

Funny Voice Acting. You have to laugh at the cheese. Nero manages to escape sometimes, but in Capcom, Cheese can't be missed.

DMC4 is alot of fun. the moves are spectacular, and coupled with the sweet graphics, this game just looks superb, also its really easy to pick up all the different combos you unlock throughout
