Great bargain!
Probably one of the greatest bargains, since the birth of CD! Includes the best Rite of Spring of all times, the one Stravinsky himself recorded in New York in the early sixties. I really did not enjoy the Rite until I heard this recording: on its own, it is worth the price of the box; the remaining 20 CD are free!

A breath of fresh air
Having read several of the other reviews of this set, I was determined to sample it for myself. I discovered that I already own some of the offerings (Rite of Spring, Agon, Apollo) in the original vinyl. I wonder how much these are worth now? The quality of the transcription to CD is generally excellent, even for the pre 60s recordings, and I for one can't fault Stravinsky's handling of the works I have sampled so far. At just under £18 this is unbelievable value for money. br / br /I have just one very minor quibble: The first box set got lost in the post from Jersey so I had to wait a few weeks until a replacement arrived. I experienced a similar delay from Indigo with another bargain a few years ago (Louis Armstrong complete hot fives and sevens). But I will definitely try them again!

Totally Unique
If we had complete recordings of Beethoven or Mozart playing their works, I doubt whether they would touch the shelves. I don't rate Stravinsky that highly, but this is an inexpensive way of getting to know his music as he himself saw it. Of course, there very well may be other, better performances of individual works, but at the price why quibble?

Don't believe those who claim(ed) that Stravinsky was a poor conductor! br /Here is ample proof that he was (most often) a very good one, not to say a great one! Many thanks to Sony for publishing such a treat (at such a price)!
